Has anyone had their wheels powder coated? If so what colour did you have & any pics please. I see on web sites that as well as basic colours there are also metallics, glitters & custom textures available. I am just fed up of a losing battle trying to keep a decent shine on the alloys so I thought powder coating may be the answer, any other ideas out there?:bch:

I am just getting my wheels wet sprayed sateen black, not powder coated. If you powder coat, the bearings and seals have to come out which means new replacements - about £140 from Triumph. The chap doing mine uses 2K which is the same as on car bodywork.

Powdercoating requires 350*F to 450*F.

Durable finishes require epoxy powders, but these are not shiny.
Shiny finishes are polyesters, and are not durable.

Have the wheels preped and painted in a good acrylic urethane and you will like the results better, IMHO.

I hope this helps,

I look forward to seeing the results at the "Ponderosa"

Something I must do this summer. :) Will have to contact my cousin in Ruabon and work something out.

Edit:

Just in case you don't know, 2K is a two pack Acrylic, 1 part being the Acrylic Enamel and the other being a poly-isocyanate hardener - it can be more durable than some powder coating materials just as PowerTripp has explained. If you decide to use the process I would make sure you have a solid black not base coat and lacquer.

No Friarjohn, not yet but I'm thinking on it. Probably for the same reason as you looking at your avatar, my rocket is the blue & silver so I'm looking at some light colour, saw a speed triple last week with white wheels and my god it looked well.
