Pipercross Intake Mod

All done, puke tank, the tiny one unfortunately had to go under the seat, but its small size still leaves some space for tools, ref etc

Done pics:

YES good looking bike and the Filter looks very nice good job

Great work Rob.

Is the filter going to fit under the BC ?
If not, can the rubber velocity stacks be made with a slight bend/bow in them to help the filter fit under the BC ?

All my original drawings had curves in the stacks. As far as fitting under the claw without claw mods, not a chance. The throttle cable guides, the solid part is in the way of the filter moving any closer in and the frame is in the way of it moving any more up.

I've been mulling over a concept in my head to get under the claw but I'm a little stalled on filter placement.

Rob - Be interested to know one dimension.
Distance EXTREME front edge of front stack - to extreme rear of rear stack. I'm wondering if the slightly shorter Porsche 911filter would fit.

Also as soon as OUR rain ceases I'll post some decent photos of the ITG made precursor to the RAMAIR.
It uses the Triumph rubber stacks. Fits with OEM puke bottle.
I would suggest that the best form of cover would be a Steel Mesh Grill - I found my leathers were rubbing on the exposed foam of the ITG.
The intake roar of the ITG is DEAFENING - I SAID DEAFENING.
Totally impossible to use on long runs. I get headaches.

Shame RAMAIR never made the Stage2 - Would have come with RAMMED-AIR-CLAW.
They used my bike to take measurements but ..........

I'm interested in trumpets once they're done - Are you printing in structural resin?
Would probably get a backplate cut here LaserMaster UK Homepage - Laser Cutting and Metal Folding LaserMaser Ltd
They did the heatsink backplates for my 10W Led-indicators.

The small hole is for the Triumph AIT rubber
The end Triumph rubbers almost touch the internal mesh form - this is as small as it gets. And as close to the TB's as it gets.
It has fireproof material twixt mesh and foam.

The design was by Colin (aka Battersea - no longer posting on here) - Made by ITG.
Even this will come not even close to fitting under a claw.
When he asked them to make one formed to fit under the claw - they declined saying their process would not cope with the shape.
When I wrote to Pipercross - they declined even to reply. We contacted RamAir with the design - the rest is history.

This is the only  picture I have of the ITG fitted

A mate made me a mold from the OEM claw and a fibreglass copy. It was a bit of a Quick&Dirty cut and exposes a bit too much bottle.

@barbagris Baterseas originals posts combined with warps were a big catalyst of ideas. Functionally that setup and mine are quite similar.

The 3D print is from shapeways using their black "strong" material. In reality it's nylon, laser sintered with very fine layer thickness, much higher quality than the normal consumer grade prints. It's quite strong yet still flexible so doesn't crack easily. It's also quite heat tolerant, given the decoupling from the motor the TBs have and the air following through them I expect no heat issues.

An example, the silicone couplers I have are 60mm ID, 3 layers, to get them on they have to slip over the print which is 62.5mm counting the ring for the clamp to bite onto.
It takes some massaging but they go on and are very tight but the nylon is fine with it.

Width is 5.5 overall, length I'll have to measure and update this post with. As it turns out, knee interference depends where I sit, if I'm forward like when riding curves I do hit it some, but better than the K&N 1750s I had on.

I may order the 40mm high filter when I order the first laser cut backplate, I think it can work, but need to look at my drawing. It would make the claw trimming very minimal.

Edit: Dimensions are 16 5/8 long by 5.5 wide, in inches.

So first ride in where it wasn't pouring rain.

Notable changes are sound, it's a bit louder full throttle but I'm ok with that. At cruising speeds I think it's actually quieter?!

Part throttle is improved, seems to transition from steady state to accelerating smoother.

Could all be in my head but I don't think it is, some of it's not a small change.
