I'm not alone, I think of Peck quite often there's a framed photo of him on his Harley in my shed. It catches my eye now and then and there's another one behind the bar at the Grand View Hotel. I never met him till I was 18 or 19 there's about half a dozen blokes that I ride with that have been mates with him since before they started school. I wasn't the only one having a quiet drink on Wednesday night.

Got a favourite photo of Marty as well .. sitting at our kitchen table with a glass of beer .. with ice cubes in it. He'd lobbed out of the blue as he often did. He'd swing off his job on the tugs and just jump on his bike and ride down from Bowen for a few days. I had no coldies in the fridge, explaining the ice cubes. Marty didn't mind a cold beer on a hot day as they say.

Dave Turnbull sent me this, he's Peck's (Greg Turnbull) brother. Merv Randall is there cousin. John Turnbull, Peck's dad owned the local boxing gym untill the mid 1980's. Dave said this was about 1967.

Wow time flies, thankfully none of my closest mates have gone through this but I witnessed my father go through prostate cancer he died 21 November.

I know what it's like to lose a true friend, and they are never forgotten and are in our thought often and sorely missed.

You never really loose a good mate ,you just don't see them anymore but they remain with you forever and that is how it should be, great to see you blokes remembering a mate ,after the initial celebration of a blokes life true friends never forget ,whilst others just move on.

Yes so true. You don't lose friends that pass. You just don't see them for a while.
Very nice tributes.

Lost a great friend this last year to cancer. Am now trying to help his son take over his pops business.
I truly miss the morning wake up calls we would make to one another on the cell phones on our way to work.

They would go something like this:

My buddy-Hey butt-head you up and out of the house yet. (its was typically 6:30 when he called. We both started our days early.)
Me- Bevis I've been up for awhile and am on my way to...
My buddy-Thank god I was getting tired of waiting in the parking lot for you to leave, its cold and your wife is waiting for me. Is the bed still warm?

This stupid conversation happened countless times. Sometimes when he asked if I was gone yet I would tell him to call me back later as I just got to his house and I didn't want to keep his wife waiting.

He was a great guy even though he rode a Harley, which I reminded him on ever occasion that I could how friggen slow it was:).
