My wife didn't find the stock backrest comfortable so I did a little looking myself.

These things are d@mned ugly; but they do look like they'll work.
With a little adjustment & time getting used to it; she's fine with the backrest itself. But, now she's starting to ask about arm rests too.

Perhaps if we join forces, we can finally get @Bedifferent to fabricate some. Of course, he and I both have Touring models, and I have no idea about the geometry of a Standard.

Sorry @Joesmoe...I bought some material but never got back to seeing what I could do. I actually would have to pull my backrest out of the holes to fabricate it and I have been reluctant to do that. I know you put a GIVI on and I can't remember what you did with the openings in the mount that held the old backrest on. I'll have to look back through my PM and see what we talked about. I'll try and see what I can do.

As a gentle reminder -- the holes -- I didn't do anything with them, really. The stock backrest rails are fabricated with internal threads so the bolts can hold the tiny rear rack at the same time. When I removed the back rest to make room for the top box, I needed the rack to support the top box, and without the backrest there, I had to add nuts and washers to provide purchase for the bolts. No modification.

I don't have a clue what the standard is like as I have the touring. I almost have to have the bike in hand to see if there is a way to fabricate something. Some pictures of your bike around the backrest would be helpful to see what I'm looking at. The other thing is...where exactly do the grips need to wind up. Hard to do without a lot of input or trying to make them so adjustable they turn into a nightmare to make.
