Radial, it has the very distinct evenly spaced thump thump thump noise while cruising, like a spitfire or mustang.

Well that would be the Supercharged V12 (2*6 inline) then. Rolls Royce Merlin with Sir Stanley Hooker's revised supercharger. I love to hear them on full chat (the whistle).

Ah so like an Pilot mate of mine - Where it says Religion on immigration forms - You can now write "Pratt & Whitney". So basically it will sound like 4&1/2 Harleys in sync.

Well that model has a 7-cylinder engine, so 3 1/2 Harleys, or 2 1/3 Rockets, and no way the original Dr1 could do many of those maneuvers.
