i'm using 5-40 weight mobil 1 car oil in all 34 bikes I own.i have never had a problem with the clutch plates slipping including Kawasaki concours with side car 9 honda cbx's 3 race bikes (2 EX500s and a 2009 ninja 650R) I have talked to mobil engineers and no one has been able to tell me any formulation difference in the car vs motorcycle oils other than price.shell rotella or cheveron delvac synthetic have never caused a problem.shear rate is fine on even the 0-40 weight mobil 1 .

34 Bikes? Holy cow my friend I couldn't afford to put water in that many. Better get advise from someone more knowledgeable than myself, I only have 1 bike and run Amsoil 20 50..

I have owned 35 bikes in my 44 year riding lifetime. Currently I own 4, but have my name on 7. My sons ride too. I have used Castrol oils for almost the entire time. Mobil 1 for the Rocket while Triumph endorsed them - Castrol Syn now. More than several of my bikes have run on Castrol 20/50 natural car oils for years with no problems. Because I only owned 1 (or maybe 2 bikes) at a time (until the last 10 years) those running on 20/50 car oils tended to get many more miles driven per year. Again never any troubles and long engine and component life. I put Castrol 20/50 natural car oils in my old Yamaha XS 750 Special I still have. I think the air cooled engines do very well with it. However at this time, I am using the Castrol 10/50 syn in my water cooled Triumphs. I'm OK with all this.

oil choice

Good day Goiburn
I wanted to do an oil change on my R3 Touring and asked the guys at the local dealership what oil they used, the answer was Castrol R1, that is what I used.
On the container it is descibed thus: castrol Power 1 racing. 4T 10w-30. HC-Synthetic.
Tri zone
SAE 10w-30; JASO MA-2 (jaso T903): 2006 API SL.
There endeth the lesson!
I use aftermarket engine oils (Halfords) on my cars, V8 Jaguar(140, 000 miles) Mitsu Shotgun (228, 000 miles) BMW Z4, but for the Rocket, because the same oil is used for the clutch, gearbox and engine I feel a tad more comfortable with the branded product.

Goiburn,

Can I come over and play! Your real name isn't Jay Leno by chance?
Good for you. Would love to see the list!

If you really need to know you can send samples to BlackStone.
There were several good posts with results on this board a while ago.

First thread and you start it with an oil discussion - interesting.
