I will be doing an annual before a 10k which means one oil change a season, I can live with a $100 for the oil. Now where can I get a filter, my nearest dealer is 50 miles away. Is there another source for the filters other than Triumph, like say K&N?

Tom

There are K&N's and Emgo's on my website.......I use the Emgo's myself. If you read Larry the oil guy's blog, he's cut apart an Emgo and says it's just as good as any filter and at 2 for 10 bucks, they are cheap.

Is Bob is the oil guy's brother named Larry?

Welcome

Larry, Daryl and his other brother Daryl......

2 to hold the filter and one on the hacksaw.........:D

Oil forums are scary. Everyone thinks the oil they use is the best oil there is, which is fine, I guess. It must all be good because you never hear of comeone destroying an engine anymore due to an oil problem other than forgetting to check it (running it dry) or forgetting to change it.

Oil has come a long way since the old days.

And in the old days 3,000 miles was the standard change. There's no reason for that or near the same anymore, if you think you're stretching the standard, to go 10k miles on a oil change, with regular 3k filter changes. Do the math: At a simple $5 per change times 3/year that is far less than 10 years to recover the initial cost of a Scotts Permanent Filter and I never have to go looking for an Emgo, ever. BTW, I plan on having the Rocket III the rest of my life!

On my website, you can buy 2 Emgo filters for the R3 for less than the price of 1 K&N. Not to say that the K&N isn't a good filter because it is. I carry both. Having said that however, it's the oil, not the filter that insures your engine is properly lubricated. If you were to change your oil at 10K but you changed out the filters at 5K, I would think that would be all the better and, 2 Emgo's work out to less than the cost of one K&N in a 10K change interval.

Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, no manufacturer can invalidate a warranty claim (during the warranty period) if the owner of the motor vehicle deviates from the OEM spcified brand of lubricant or lubricant filter. So long as the end user maintains the proper service frequency (as specicifed by the manufacturer) and uses lubricant's, filters and replacement parts that meet the criteria and specifications set forth by the manufacturer, the manufacturer cannot invalidate any warranty claim using those conditions.

Ever since the initial oil change at 500 miles, my R3 has been lubricated with 15-50 Amsoil JASO-MA. I changed the oil at 5K and that's the oil that was in it when Gus tore it apart last week. It also had an Emgo filter on the front. Didn't quite make it to 10K before it dirtied the sheets.
