I got rid of that little bastard filter altogether. Here is my solution to the oil fog / stuck dirt / impossible to get at and clean filter. Been on there over a year and "no worries mate"

Fred after a year have you noticed any color change in the throttle body innards? I was thinking of something similar but running it to a catch can first with a drain cock in it. Then from the catch can to the intake system. I would pipe it into the base plate of my piper cross filter.

I'm doing a major service on my touring tomorrow, it'll be the first time I've had the cam cover off.

I have a new gasket to use when refitting. Would you guys recommend putting sealer anywhere else in addition to the D's? Would it be feasible to put some around the gasket at the plug holes to hold it in place or would that be overkill?

Seems like it would be real easy for the circles to move before everything is tightened up.

It will not hurt it at all even if you only do it on the plug areas (plus the D's) the gasket has a ledge around it to help it sit in place but you do have to pay close attention to it. Adding sealant just insures it does not move during the cam cover placement. You can also save your old gasket and do the same thing with it provided it is not damaged and you clean it with something like brake cleaner before applying the sealant.

I had the throttle bodies off when I did the output shaft bearings. I checked it over because there was some concern that it might foul the plugs on that cylinder. I could see no difference between that one and the other two. I think the amount of oil vapor that would come in there would be negligible. Yours, however may have more blow-by being "huffed" .

Yes FA motors have been known to run higher crank case pressures.
Good to hear there is no difference it makes a catch can more of a safety measure then needed.

One thing I've found when working on these bikes - a little bit of knowledge is dangerous. It's way too easy to feel that we know everything about something. The trick is knowing when you need an expert to help you rather than just an "expert". Thankfully you got help from a couple of the former. I wasn't game to change mine myself and was fortunate to have Hanso help me (actually he did it; I watched).

i dont mind having to do things twice , if im having a go and fark it up 1st time , as long as it's not causing major damage , only way to learn

bit of a bugger having to do it twice @Wrecka... you will be getting pretty good at fitting all the airbox plastics.

Beauty of it is i fitted a RamAir before RDU mate , no plenum and hoses in the way

How many times have we heard these famous words only for the problem to be the owners error glad it is nothing serious and a day off work is always good.

Frustration , it's fully insured i was tempted to have a BBQ with it...............

I think i might try a similar approach with the breather onto the ramair , i'll have to battle to get into that breather out let again though..........
