Not a pretty sight in the morning so had to cage the R3

Bugger .. you didn't even swear though did you .. cool, calm and collected I bet. Pain in the ass none the less mate. Need like a 5 gallon keg full of Co2 for the back tyre. I carry 8 of those pissy little canisters when on the road but ..:cool:

I have used mushroom plugs with success but prefer the string type.

I carry a bunch of strings, a needle nose pliers, a rasp tool and a string inserted tool.

And a mini compressor. And a pressure gauge.

If it's a puncture, it will usually work a tear prob'ly not.

I also carry cell phone, AAA RV, and AMA Roadside assist...if u r lucky enough 2 have phone signal.

When using compressor, I run engine in neutral to avoid battery discharge.

Plugs are for emergency "limp back" use.

Ogre,
Am I to assume that the Dynaplug Pro is the best repair tool, in your opinion?

I had a regulator pack it in at the Three Ways Roadhouse years ago.. rang Harley Roadside assist , they couldn't even find Three Ways on the map . Suggested they google in "middle of ***cin nowhere" .. was told it would be at least 72 hours as they needed to get a HD approved crate and approved carrier organised. I was with a pack of 20 bikes heading to Queensland .. never a fan of breakdown vehicle on runs until then. Loaded Dyna up and 'borrowed' regulator off the owner of the HD Dealership in Mt Isa personal ride. Back on the road ;)

Had an overnighter with Mrs Ozrider last night, direct ride was 170 Ks from home and looking forward to a leisurely 250K ride home through the hills to avoid the long weekend traffic, BUT.. woke up to seeing all the air at the top of the tyre.....
Close inspection it had a sharp stone in it and had cut the cord right in the centre, my repair kit I have carried for donkeys years was about as useful as tits on a bull
So went two up on Helens bike home. got a trailer and another return trip,so much for avoiding the long weekend traffic.
Before I loaded it on the trailer, just for sh-its & giggles I thought I would try and make it easier to push so emptied my 3 Co2 canisters into it to see how far it would inflate, I can tell you its not much !!!!
Looks like I will be trying to find a small compressor and a plug kit with a cord about the thickness of the small finger :rolleyes:

sorry about your misfortune and glad you got home ok.

however.....

did anyone notice the rocket inside that cage? reminds me of a nature show. 'this wild beast was caught in town and tranqualized, we are now taking it back to
the wild to release it'.

Don't know what is best. I've never used Dynaplug.

These or something similar, are available @ auto parts stores and truck stops:

And you get a pack of refills, example;

http://m.acehardware.com//product/index.jsp?productId=1297556&KPID=997194&pla=pla_997194

I have used them 3 times myself, over the years and they got me home or to a shop.

I have been with others that have used them Maybe a half dozen times.

One larger tear wouldn't seal at all. One worked halfway, continued leaking at a slow rate but with a few stops along the way to add air, got him back to civilization.

The others worked fine.

I have used this type once and was with someone that used it once, both times worked;

But it is more bulky to carry along.

I have seen some people, on 2 occasions, use the strings by u igniting them and then inserting them...To get better seal. I've never tried that.

Some people use a liquid adhesive with the strings, for better adhesion.

I've used the strings dry and not flaming. By the time you use it, the liquid can be dried out, if you don't refresh your kit often.
