No spark at all three coils

I fought a cold morning start problem and i was running two batteries was checking everything like you and thought no way it could be the two batteries
but it got to where it would only start with bat charger on high after about 10 minutes charging once started i was good for the rest of the day. i had the old dwell meter tester that works the best when it showed about 55 (8 cyls or 6 cyls) it still worked on the 3 cyl. when it didn't show it would not start
new batteries and no more problem ( of coarse it is 100 degrees i will know for sure if it ever gets to 40degrees f

You have to have the clutch pulled in to start the bike. If that switch goes bad( or the wiring to it) does it tell the ecu to cut spark?
no the clutch switch is just one of the safeties that has to be on to allow the ecu to ground the starter relay so it can start..

Switch on the kickstand, if I click it into first gear with the kickstand down, it kills the bike. If this switch is bad, does it tell the ecu to cut the spark to kill the bike?
no or at least i think not i think that when it kills in first the ecu probably turns off the engine management relay
And the run/stop switch on the controls. This might look fine on the outside, but if it is bad, does it tell the ecu to cut the spark to shut off the bike? So maybe the ecu is preventing spark due to faulty switch?
no but if the switch is bad you will never get it started or if it is welded you will not be able to turn it off with this switch.

It's not impossible to have all 3 coils fail? But probably not.
I do have a similar issue that I have to try cranking it multiple times to get it to start and it has no spark like yours. I have yet to solve the problem.
 
IT seems to me that when it reaches a certain voltage and a slow cranking speed that the ecu will not ground the coils there for no spark so no start.
i could tell by the dwell meter whether mine was going to start or not. i spent many many hours on this problem.
i changed crank sensor, ecu, coils, fall sensor, probably several things i can't remember. so i do have a lot of spare parts
also gain a lot of knowledge and have a lot of info on my computer from each sensor i have checked
still running same original tps
i hope solving my problem helps a lot of you.
 
The wiring diagram shows the coil power coming from the engine management relay, the high side gets power from the #6 fuse. That power also feeds the purge valve. If you have TuneECU you might be able to test the purge valve to see if the EM relay is being energized.

One other note. The EMS is sensitive to battery voltage. If it drops too low during cranking it may fail to fire the coils. Putting in a new battery would eliminate that as a problem source.
 
the engine management relay is the main relay if it doesn't work nothing works no fuel pump, no gauges, no crank ect
however if the points is bad in that relay it will draw down the voltage. and cause problems.
for the price put in a new one.

Hi there to one & all regarding my problem with no spark at all (coils/plugs) I've carried out all suggestions, some parts already have been renewed IE Ems relay, change over relay (starter/headlight) ECU was repaired by Carmo, fault was no starter circuit, spark now at spark plugs a little weak but evident using second hooked up battery. My current battery is a Exide ETX 20H producing 270 cca, so looking out a new battery with higher cca output hopefully 350/400 cca plus maybe a YTX24HL-BS? 350 cca, regarding purge valve my bike is a UK spec so its not fitted.

GOOD TO KNOW. awesome you got it sorted. this is probably whats going wrong with mine as well, good old British trash electrical engineering with chinesium parts at its finest.

Usually a new battery fixes most electrical problems. And just a note about the current electrics on Triumphs, they are in every way superior to Lucas (i.e. Prince of Darkness) electrics found on the old Meriden and Coventry models.
