Bigger engine? Why?
Traction control, ride by wire throttle and riding modes be my guess. Anyone who has ridden a Tiger 800 in Sport mode would be keen on the idea for the Rocket.
Styling wouldn't be anything like those mock ups. That Sport Touring isn't just sh1t, it would put the Rocket into the stupid class along with Victory Vision and FB6. Anyway, I'd like to see a more contemporary street fighter to complete the move away from being a cruiser rather than some bolt ons; perhaps something along Diavel lines or even VMax.
But 2300cc will be the engine size.
As for this whole gearing conversation, I think what most people are talking about (including me) is that the engine starts to get a little buzzy above 3000 rpm's. I had read an article about the early design of the R3. It was said that they could have made the engine completely smooth, but that focus groups wanted "to feel the engine". My suggestion to Triumph would be to remove the buzz. I'd be fine running the engine at 5000 rpm's if I could see out of the mirrors.
THE CARPENTER engines are smoother than the stock engines even though they make double the HP I notice I can travel at any speed I want and the engine is smoother and then its only the wind blast at high speeds thats annoying
Not at all. I do need better exhaust tho. The TOR's just really aren't enough. Top end suffers. Next step will be Carpenter exhaust.
Eventually some head work and cams. Most likely Carpenter as well.
So I was all set to pick up a Rocket X, as I am firmly in the camp that it will be the last/only serialized R3s.
Sadly there are none left to order from Triumph, and the only one new left for sale is in Maryland and it's priced too high:/
So be it, maybe I am totally wrong and something even better is around the corner, who knows!
We have a sayings in OZ"when you are on a good thing stick to it" and" "if ain' broken don't fix it" IMHO Triumph should just keep the R3 unique format as it is ,just tweak each years model slightly, but remain close to the original, it is selling in limited numbers and as the tooling is already set up and the power unit/frame and transmission is a proven unit then surely production costs must be lower than a whole revamp and possible rejection by the customers who buy this type of machine.
1olbull A lot of dealerships back in September advertised on the internet that they had A Rocket X for sale but in reality did not. Even if the bike had been sold three to five months early they still advertised. Bait and switch game.

You are right about it being smoother than stock. Even running 85-90 mph for long distances I never had the buzzy feeling in my feet that I used to get above 3000 rpms
