New unmodified R3R, What would you do to it?

Hi All,

So I have a little wait for my new 2013 Roadster (Phantom Black) :(

Until mid-september I will be reading up on and maybe buying some bits for performance, luggage, comfort etc etc

So far I figure (but haven't decided on any makes/models in particular) the following:
  • Fly screen - where is the best place for these from the UK?
  • Pannier mounting system such as easy bracket (i.e. not an eye sore!)
  • Some black hard cases to fit the above type of rack
  • Sissy bar and rack (if in chrome will become black fairly rapidly)
  • Garman Zumo 600+ (I have a car TomTom in waterproof case with Ram mount at present)
  • Maybe ceramic coating of the exhaust pipes and cans

Then longer term after the warranty is over:
  • Cat removal
  • New shorter exhaust system (in black finish)
  • Upgraded ECU map via TuneECU

If you had an unmodified roadster model straight from the factory like me what you you go out and get for it / modify and why?

Are you getting the TOR mufflers? This will sound great, give great power, and you won't have to screw around with trying to retune it. More important is the seat. Got any plans for that? Hope you use a full face helmet because fly screen don't do squat.

I think performance enhancements will wait for the warranty to be finished, the bike is great as standard really, plus once I start thinking of a newer bike in a couple of years I just make my R3 a little bit better again and not more thoughts of a different bike again, for a bit :)

That's what I did

TORS would be a Triumph part - get it fitted by the dealer and they stick the new tune in - warranty should not be affected.

Thanks all, the chances are I wont do a thing to the bike at first except ride it, my SMT is only now being performance modded after 2 years of ownership and 15K miles...all it had done before now was having a travel kit and a scott oiler fitted.

The R3 will not be messed with much for some time with the exception of fitting a flyscreen and cissy bar/rack and perhaps the covering up of some chrome ;)

I'll likely be getting the first service done within 2 weeks of taking it away from the dealer then it'll be weekend jaunts a plenty I hope, as well as some little evening excursions :)

Riding first, modding and admiring comes second for sure!

I just want to do a little window shopping and get a feel for what is possible with the bike now whilst I am suffering through withdrawal.....I might ask if I can have another demo ride soon if it gets too much :)

mate, jump on a plane, come over and ride some of ours. by the time you get back yours will be ready!

Easy solved mate;)

Trouble is I wouldn't want to come back ;)

I lived in Fiji for 4 years, hence my nickname, love that part of the world!

Yeah, it's just a bit of extra money for a little gain in power and a lot in coolness and you don't have to do anything.

Getting back to the seat, the rider seat looks acceptable but my wife wouldn't stand for that pillion. I don't believe the longhaul dual touring seat is available (some question about that) for the R3R but it's quite comfortable for an OEM seat, especially with the backrest.

I'll look to get some S/H once I have the bike I think as I am likely going to ceramic coat them along with the pipes...

Is it right that in the 2013 the cats are in the silencers? And the TOR shorties will basically mean no more cats?

Will a Triumph sissy bar and rack cause issues when looking for a replacement seat or does it leave plenty of room for alternatives?

To be honest we'll probably be fine with the standard seat anyway but time will tell

Not sure but I believe the new R3R TORs have the cats. I believe the tall sissy bar/luggage rack is the same as they were for the standard R3's. This accommodated a Corbin dual touring so it should work with anything - except an additional passenger backrest on the pillion part.

Not sure if anyone else has this problem but the stock roadster seat had some of my bits and pieces losing circulation. I had to do a lot of moving around and creative positioning on anything longer than a 30 or 40 minute ride. I picked up a Corbin saddle and it's a LOT more comfortable for long rides, as well as being a bit lower, giving me a more "IN the bike" feel and bringing the bars a bit closer. I'd recommend a Corbin to anyone who's asking.
