I can't answer as good as Paul did. In fact, mine is off at the moment and I'm just running the solo seat. My wife rarely rides with me anymore since she started riding her own, which I am glad she enjoys her bike.. However, my wife and both kids say it is more comfortable with the sissy bar in place. I have used the luggage rack for some longer trips and it works great. Pretty strong piece. Mine is also the short one.
Dave,
i'm getting a little off topic here, but i noticed you run a sissy bar/luggage combo...
is it the tall version,or the short one? and what does Dawn think about the comfort? the reason i ask, is because i'm going to pack roni with me for the ride up and was wondering if the short sissy bar/classic backrest pad would be ok? what are your thoughts about this?
Paul,Dave........
i'm going to order the short version. it'll look a lot better when i delete the touring/luggage rack while commuting. yet roni will still be comfortable during our saturday morning breakfast runs.thank you both for the input. it helped me settle this once and for all.....

When i am riding with Paul, I just lean back and enjoy the ride, thank goodness for the sissy bar. that was my xams present in 06, lol. Ya, the ride to South padre Island, was great the only thing after 9.5 hrs, my azz was numb! but other than that, my back felt great. Hope this helps some what as well!
hey dave,
what's the protocol regarding your reservations? are we to procure lodgings by your reservations or should we go it alone or whatsa scoop? just curious on your lead, cause you were nice enough to set this up. i was gonna go ahead and reserve and pay for myself and roni next payday if that's ok.
Sorry about the late reply.. It's been so busy here at work the past couple of days I haven't hardly had a chance to go to the bathroom.. lol. I'll e-mail myself the confirmation number tomorrow and call and confirm and find out the protocol..
