Ride
2011 Triumph Rocket III Roadster (Phantom Black)
Here I am, I get a whole week of nice fall riding weather to see the colors in the hillside. I just got the last of my back ordered accessories that I ordered with my brand spanking NEW (only 748 miles) R3 Roadster. My first ride, with the wife on back.
I made a left turn, shifted up, rev, shifted up, rev, shift up, Whiiirrrrrr sound, pulled off on shoulder of road. The clutch lever has no tension anymore. The cable is all still there. Something inside broke or fell out of place. Saw what looked like a clutch inspection cover with a rubber gasket, behind lower edge of radiator. Removed radiator with hoses attached to get to the cover. Removed the cover and gasket to find NOTHING. I had my bike trailered 60 miles to the dealership that I bought it at. Which doesn't open again for two days because it's a holiday weekend.
Sorry about the rant!!!!
I guess I just need to see if anybody has had any clutches breaking even on not so New of Rocket 3?
Clutch cable was in tact, something inside let loose.

That happened to me mate on my 09 standard straight after the shop had fixed another part was coverd by warrante but i had no bike for a week because they didnt have the part on the shelf. I made them come and collect my bike on there ute also because i had no way of getting it to them. Havent had any problems since it was fixed

I hate that for you bro. At least you got 700 something miles on it before it broke so you know how cool of a ride the Roadster is.

My first one let go at 792 miles, the next at around 14k. Like warp said, keep slack in the clutch cable.

I recall another member had something break inside his clutch. Posted a video clip. Canadian I think. Will have a search for it.

THANK YOU for all the helpful info.

My bike is at the dealer waiting for Wed morning When they open. A well as I will be.
I'd bet you guys are on the right track, with the broken shaft, especially after I saw how weak that shaft is made (thanks CanberraR3 for finding pictures in another thread). I'll be double checking the freeplay in the clutch lever when I get the bike back.
This was probably the deal maker, when I bought my Rocket 3, finding an owners forum that was as active with info as this is. To find a bike I like is one thing, but to find a world of helpful info when you need it is priceless.
Now I hope to still get some good riding in before, well you know, the white stuff that falls from the sky. (I don't want to jinx anything by saying the name)
I'll know for sure in a couple days, dealer was closed Sunday and is closed Monday for Columbus Day.
I feel a little better by just knowing what it probably is, at least.

How much slack? I installed Pazzo levers and had re adjusted my clutch cables. I know that it shifts so much smoother now but not sure if I got enough slack.

Service manual state 2-3 mm
