New Pipes

Forgive my ignorance but how can the catalytic converter be in the pipes? I thought the box after the headers and before the pipes was the cat?

That box is hollow. I also thought it was the cat but when I had my exhaust system off I found out it was just an empty box. The cats are indeed in the forward section of the muffler housing.

Thanks GPMAZ, that why I like this web site! Wonder why they just didn't use strait pipes? I saw pictures of the Raask slip on pipes and they had a pipe that replaces the box.

Good question. Maybe it has something to do with tuning back pressure. But that's a guess based on absolutely no knowledge of exhaust design. I do know the Jardines I installed last weekend don't have a box there, just straight through pipes.

Why did they run three into one right on the side of the bike? That has perplexed me since before I bought the thing. I would have paid a couple hundred more for the bike and been tickled ****less to have a real three pipe header instead. But whatever, it works right?

Well that brings me to my next question. Should I go with slip on's that use the old link pipe with the box, like the TORS and D&D, or go with a slip on like the Rassk that uses a strait walled pipe? Going back to my old days when I was into cars and headers seems the Raask system would be better.

My only experience with slip-ons is with the D&Ds. They are very well made and sound quite nice. I would suspect that there is very little difference, if any, in performance among the four options available.
