Just got my sissy bar/back rest back from Russell Day Long Saddles and got it mounted. After I got the seat back from them the stock back rest was too low due to the thickness of the seat. I wanted them to make me a matching back rest like the one they made for the drivers seat but they wouldn't. They would only recover the factory one to match (wondered how much detail they could get on the factory one, it's only about 4x6") So I asked them if I built my own would they recover it and they said yes. I like how it looks, although I wanted to keep my bike sporty looking it's looking more and more like a rolling couch, but the wife is comfy and that count's for alot. I traced the back rest from Russell's on to some 1/4" plywood and cut it out x 2 and mated it to the plastic portion that was the back of the original so that way it would bolt right back on to the sissy bar. Kinda proud of it since I made it and it's an original ( as far I as know) and not likely to see another R3 with one on it (not that anybody would want one). I've posted pics in my album.

How long did Russell have your seat for the original work? Since I've got the original seat I could put it back on till the seat/backrest came back. I take it that the drivers back rest is the original Triumph version just recovered by Russell?

Hey Dennis, seems like they had it for 2 or 3 weeks, I don't exactly remember but it was worth the wait. I bought another seat just so I wouldn't be shut down and also if I don't won't the couch on there I could trade it out. But I must admit that the comfort has won out over the cool factor so I really don't use the stock seat anymore. The back rest is from them, my seat did not have a back rest. It's truly amazing what they can turn your seat pan into. When you send or call your order in they give you a work date that they want your seat in by so when you place your order it could be as much as a month before they want your seat. Good luck with it, you won't be disapointed. They have a money back guarantee, they just ask that you give them 3 chances to get it right if your not satisfied the 1st time.

That is a greeeat looking seat. What covering material did you get. I am trying to talk myself into spendin the bucks. And the russell is what I would buy. My arse is only good for about 80 miles would like to streach to a half tank of fuel. Did you save your pattern for the pillion rest?

I see you said yours is in vinyl, do you think it would be any better in leather?Dennis

Personally I think vinyl holds up better with less maintanance. I have my dad's 69 Honda 350 and the vinyl is still ok. You can look on the site, I think Leather is $200 more. The vinyl I have does not look cheap at all. Leather looks neat but it can only be seen when your not on the bike. Good luck
