Thanks, guys, for all the input. Perusing webikeworld-I see head shape is an incredibly important aspect, so I need to get myself to some shops to for fitment. Fit and comfort. Agreed on that score. Back in the day I wore Bell helmets, but I see they lost their way and are now back on track. But what a wide array of choices!

That article I linked a page ago was pretty cool on impact testing.... too spongy vs too stiff, g's of impact vs joules energy from drop height, and considerations of DOT and Snell approved vs just DOT. Interesting read.

The Star line is the only "new and improved" one that I am aware of for Bell, saboteur, so if you're looking for top quality in a Bell helmet, I wouldn't stray to any of their other lines! again, I can't say enough good about the Star lids and if you can bag one for 200 bucks, I guarantee that you'll feel like a thief.

BTW, and I'm speaking strictly from my own personal perspective, I will only buy a lid that is both DOT and Snell approved. Nothing's too good for my coconut!
