Welcome from Virginia!

Good lord that is a nice stable of bikes! I'm with the rest of the guys, I love my rocket but I also love the engineering and beauty of bikes in general and would love to see some photos!

G'day and welcome. As said before, a great list of bikes. Also, well done riding the Rocket with a bunch of stitches in your hand. When I grow up I want to be just like you. (but without the need for stitches. ;) )

Thanks for all the welcomes, it seems to be a bunch of good guys on the Rocket 3 forum. One reason I bought one of these is because they are different from the rest and I love Triumphs as a kid and thru out life. I am posting some pics of some of my old bikes and a little story you might find interesting of my old Vincent that I sold about a year or two ago. I'm sure I'll enjoy the Rocket just like you guys do. Every bike has its good points and its not so good points, no bike does everything perfect but I never rode a motorcycle that wasn't fun.

THE VINCENT STORY, I SOLD THIS BIKE ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO BUT HERE IS A COPY OF MY AD.

This Vincent Black Shadow engine number F10AB/1B/9697 left the Vincent factory in May 1954 and was delivered to the Indian Sales Company in San Francisco California. From there it went to Los Angeles to be sold new to a man named *****Owens. *****was a family man who loved motorcycles and boats. *****kept the bike from 1954 until 1979 when he was killed in a boating accident. His wife was a school teacher and in 1980 a year after the original owners death another school teacher told my friend Bob about the bike. Bob asked this fellow if he would take him to meet Dicks widow who still had the bike to see if she would sell it. The wife ended up selling the bike to Bob. Bob rode the bike for about 3 months and about 300 local miles when the front tire went flat. Bob liked the Vincent but his heart was set on a certain Harley he had been wanting for a long time which the owner finally decided to sell. Bob called me and asked if I would like to buy the Vincent so that he could buy the Harley. I told him to bring the bike over and I bought it. It sat in the corner of my shop for several months with the tire still flat. I never touched it as I had several other projects going at that time and a great running 48 VINCENT HRD RAPIDE to ride. About six months later Bob called me and wanted to buy the bike back and I sold it back to him, it still had the flat tire. It was still 1980 and Bob took the bike home and put it in his garage. His son was born within weeks of getting the Vincent back and he was to busy to even fix the flat. The bike sat in the garage and Bobs priorities changed as his time and money were consumed by taking care of his family. Time went by and one day Bob thought he would fix the flat and ride the Vincent. The paint on the wheel was flaking and it had some surface rust and the spokes looked terrible. Bob decided to restore the wheel and had it chromed and painted correctly with black in the center and the red stripes bordering it. He had the original spokes cad plated and had the wheel laced up and trued. Bob patched the original tube and put the original tire back on it as he had already spent to much money on the wheel restoration. At that same time he had also removed the front fender and was going to have it polished but because money was tight he never got around to it. The bike was once again pushed to the back of the garage, at least the tire was fixed but now the original front fender and fender stays were still not back on it. Bob raised his children and his interests changed over the time and he never again rode the Vincent. It is now over 31 years later and I find out Bob still has the bike. It takes over a year but finally Bob sells me the bike once again. I loaded up the bike along with a box that held the original fender and fender stays into my truck and took it directly to my old friend (over 50 years) and famous Vincent expert Mike Parti. This bike has lived its entire life in the San Fernando Valley of Southern California and has never been apart since new other than the front wheel and fender. The engine, frame, wiring, original paint, control levers, Faridax seat etc are all original, there are even some tools in the tool tray that I think are original. The motor or trans has never been touched and I asked Mike to change all the oils and clean out the carbs and see if it will run. I also asked Mike to put the original fender and fender stays back on the bike so it would once more be complete. The day finally arrives when my phone rings and it's Mike, he says "the bike is together and running". He tells me its mechanically the quietest Vincent he has ever heard. I did not ride the bike but just took some videos of it running, the new owner will decide weather he wants to ride it or restore it or display it as an original.
