Hi Guys,

I am brand new here, Ive been riding for thirty five yrs, have owned at least four bikes that are simiilar in quarter mile times as the rocket 3, so I dont feel intimidated by the incredible power of the rockets tourque.
I am considering the purchase of a rocket 3, and would like input into what are the things that dont work out well with these bikes. Most bikes have at least one achilles heel, and some have lots, what is it that actually goes wrong with these bikes with higher mileage.

I only have three dealer s in my state, and they are all two hours minimum from me so I will end up doing all the maintence and prolly most repairs when they are needed. I havnt found a good source of a service manual yet but am sure there is one out there.

If anyone has input into rocket problems, please let me know or maybe link to it if possible. Thanks in advance.

Tom

I have an 05 standard I bought new in Nov. 06. It has 26,000 miles on it now. It still has the original battery. I change the oil religiously every July. I ride it like I stole it. (At $12,500 out the door it was a steal). I put a few long rides on it and watched as Harleys and Hondas got put on the meat trailer, my Trumpet just kept running smooth as Naomi Campbells' thighs. I have the triple K&N's, cat delete, TOR's, Triumph footboards, Utopia backrest, dark side 225/55, Fiamm Highway blasters, Hagon rear shocks, progressive fork springs, Iridium spark plugs, Tuneboy, trailer hitch, and on and on and on. The bike starts every time I hit the go button, pulls like a freight train and has never gotten so out of shape I dumped it (going ionto the ditch in Texas was my unwillingness to grind my pegs off). I do not have the tranny upgrade and my trans is sweet as Alabama tea. So if you get one, it's luck of the draw the assembly line wasn't asleep when your bike was built. Good luck.

Hi All,

Thanks for the input so far, I doubt this bike has the trannyupgrade, is that part of the package of triumph fixes. I only have three dealers in my state, and the close one is four hours away. This bike is a 2006 with a rebuilt title, it seems to ride straight and fine, is very very strong motorwise. It has ten thousand miles on it, looks as good as new except for some scrapes on the windshield. The present owner says a crash bar was on the bike and was attached to the actual engine, the bar was damaged so he took it off. Do youz see a need to investigate further for problems. He is willing to sell it for 6500 as it sits.

Triumph crash bars DO fix to the frount engine mount. However they are pretty soft & deform easily ( even the tougher newer ones) There's little risk over a dammaged crash bar per say. These are tough bikes, & a slide is likely to be cosmetic dammage only... Find out what type of crash it's had?

Hi,
The owner doesnt know, since he bought it thru an auction from his buddy who is a buyer of harleys at auctions . The owner also says, that one side of the radiator had what looked like raccoon hair and fat still attached to it that he of course cleaned off. Owner tells me, rt side of the crashbar was damaged but the left was totally ok. Also he changed a mirror he believes on the right, and the tank had some dents but he thinks that it was the left side of the tank that was damaged, that he had bumped out and painted, the windshield does have scratches a bit on the left and right, so I dont know about that. The bike looks new now and I have pix I can send anyone if they want to see it. I intend to inspect the steering stops for damage before I do more on it, if youz have more ideas, shoot them to me. This story, really doesnt sound right with the damage on either side of the bike and what appears to be an animal strike. However, there was no damage to either front or rear fender so he says, but the windshield has scratches on it. Keep in mind, I have ridden the bike, and it handles well, doesnt seem to be any pull to left or right at all, the footpegs or boards arent damaged, nor is the chrome bar that surrounds the engine.

Ok sounds like just a cosmetic right side slide ( not a frount end impact).
Check the frame welds for cracks or repainting.. You shouldn't notice anything odd if it's fine.:D

sounds like a little racoon damage was all it got,
I'd jump on it with both feet.
The bike ain't hurt.
If you rode it, and it rode straight,
I'd get it.
