New Cams New Thread

The 2006 tensioner blades are in, but I don't like the idea of not having the metal seat for the mechanical tensioner the newer one has machined to create a pocket for the tensioner head.

When adjusting the manual tensioner does the engine have to be turned over to a certain spot to find the loose/tight spot ?

You'll know if it's too loose quickly from the sound.

Yes, without looking at it, I recall something like. Park, put it in 5th push forward to wrap all the slack to the tensioner side and then adjust.

I always have to check the directions warp posted lol.

Looks like I've reached as far as I can go at this point, with the exception of checking valve clearances.

Need a new tensioner blade from Carpenter or Neville with the boot for the manual adjuster.

Cam chain measured out 143.3 across 23 links, so I'll be going with the seasoned, zero visible wear chain of the older design I already had.

Going to grab a borescope from AutoZone now and see what I can see.

143.3mm seems a bit short, did you measure across the outside of pin 0 to outside of pin 23, like diagram in manual?

The sevice limit is 149.48 iirc, that's a nice bit away from 143.3

Mine were around 146.5 iirc

147.63 limit, in the how to thread your measured 142.xx, believe me this is why I put info here, because I forget myself lol.

Disclaimer: I will not be "telling all" about the Neville Special, suffice it to say it's bigger and longer. You want one, call Neville.

When I popped in to visit the man in the tin shed in January He said about how much HP he could get out of the Cams I almost fell over.

Are you going the whole Hog on his Cams?

Thinking on the PTV issue.

Very heavy valve springs I think saved me. When the chain snapped, it snapped with the broken link between the cams. . That's how I found it, still run on it's normal path, with the broken part at the top.

It had been thrown off all 3 gears, allowing the cams to pop to their most neutral position very quickly.

I seriously doubt a normal valve train would have the push to near instantly kick the chain away and pop the cams back into place.

By no means do I think this anything but phenomenal luck, had the chain held on to any of the three gears it could/would have led to serious mechanical carnage, in particular, had it stayed on the crank gear and wrapped as the engine spun down it could have bound and oh God, the horror lol.

Nev assures me there are even more radical options, should they become "necessary" but it's more involved using them.

Mufasa has been re identified as having 2 hp that’s funny
