2007 Rocket III classic
not to long ago when i turned on my rocket the gauges would light up, then go off then on again, I thought the battery was going out, the other day there was no power, i checked the battery and it had 12.7 Volts. but no power to my gauges or lights or anything. anyone got an idea?

Do you ride this bike alot or not, check battery termanals are clean and tight. check all fuses are in tight..how old is the battery. it could be shot.

Well the battery is about 3 years old, but it has 12.7 volts, and that would be enough to light things up. my terminals are clean, and i did check the fuses,

Sounds like ignition switch is failing. A fairly common problem with Rockets. Do you have the Eastern Beaver headlight relay upgrade ? It routes the power for the lights around the ignition taking most of the load off of it. Some people have repaired their ignition switches. Do a little searching, there is some good info on it.

my rocket is a 2007, i don't know about any upgrade. I think you're right about the switch, this sucks

Could be the ignition switch have you done the light relay up grade to remove load from the switch.try turning the bars side to side and see if it lights up

No, I'm not sure what the light relay upgrade is.

Definitely sounds like the ignition switch to me. Too much power (for the headlights in particular) goes through the switch and the solder joints fail as a result. It is possible to remove and disassemble the ignition switch, re-solder the wire and get going again. However, you will have to remove two "tamper-proof" screws. This can be done in several different ways, but you will have to replace them. It is probably best to replace them with regular metric screws or bolts.

The problem will return if you don't divert the power for the headlights from the ignition switch. There is a kit made by Eastern Beaver which will do that. It is pretty much plug and play. The hardest thing is explaining to the spousal unit the credit card charge to Eastern Beaver.
