I followed with great interest the restoration of the B-36 that had been at the gate to Carswell AFB. Then I remember that neither Dallas nor Ft Worth were willing to come up with the money to have a place to display it, and the Air Force directed it be shipped to Pima. Would love to go, especially now seeing your eyes-on tour.

I think I saw one of them at Castle Air Museum near Merced CA. It's a great big flying thing!
I also enjoy seeing C-47s. That's the plane my Dad jumped from in WW2, 11th Airborne, Recon Platoon.

I’m glad it found a good home and it was in excellent shape. If my directional compass is correct it is in the northeast corner.

Six propeller and four jet engines attached to a massive wingspan is impressive for sure. So wide I didn’t get it all in the frame!

I once built a plastic model of one of those once. My dad was a navagator and started on those and later b47, b52 and c123. That plane stradled the piston and jet age.

As i recall it was one of the largest models they sold. When i was a kid, i always built aircraft models while other kids built cars.

So a little more on the dump.

On the second night the dog people above me started pacing, moving furniture and banging from 10pm until 12pm, again at 2 am, again at 5am and 7am.

At 7:30 I went to the office (did I say it is a window and you stand outside?) to complain about the noise. They said to come back at 8am when the manager arrives.
8am: Manager said they could move me to another room after checkouts and to come back at 11am.
11:20 They will pick a room, have it cleaned and call me. Mind you, this place is not fully booked.
1pm: Went to get lunch and stopped in to see why I didn't get called. Jokes about not bringing them lunch and they will locate a new room ASAP. Apparently they dropped the ball...
3pm: I went back to see when and where to move to and they said I could stay in the Executive Suite because the sink upstairs broke and the dog people were being moved.

Great, now I don't have to move all my gear that I didn't feel safe leaving on the trailer.
Well, because I didn't check out the computer charged me full rate of $89 for another night and it took them 1/2 an hour to figure out how to void it and charge me a reduced 7 night bill.

11pm to 1pm: Even worse dragging, banging, loud walking by people and large dogs. The office said the tenants were relocating and cleaning the room!!

More noise at 7am - inspection by staff I assumed.

This was the cheapest room in Tucson at US$34/nt when I first booked but went up to $41 for the weekend rate. There was another hotel nearby at $38 but I didn't want to move my crap and it looked just as bad.

Room service? None after three nights. I guess I have to ask for cleaning (why bother), new linen (why bother), and new towels ( I am using my own and will wash them elsewhere).

Dont ever stay at Knight Inn in dallas. I had to walk 10 blockes to get food and when i got there i noticed a guy from the motel "happened" to be in the store and seemed to be waiting for a chance to approach me. When i went out he went out. I took a convoluted way back and lost him only weapon i had was a leatherman and i kept my hand on it. It was day and i didnt come out til checkout time at 5:30 am. There was alot of hooker activity and transactions going on all night. Got that room on hotels.com. moral: you get what you pay for.

Yes, the meth heads were on the move last night and I heard a few shuffling about outside.

I kept taking a peak to make sure the trailer & bike were OK. I'm extra paranoid because a sketchy guy checked in with an old pickup towing an empty trailer the perfect size to carry my camper.

Hotels.com got me good this time.

I usually stay at the lower end budget hotels to stretch my retirement dollar but This property had "Suites" in the name and the "Secret Price" was a %50 discount so I thought I was going to a decent place.

The deal was so good and the photos looked nice so I didn't read the reviews and booked two nights.
I really didn't feel like moving so booked a full week to avoid the cold & rain this week.

It really should be rated 2.0. Most of the "10's" were from 3 years ago after some rooms were renovated, they were accustomed to worse or they were blind. Maybe the employees padded the reviews as well...

5 days without an offer to clean the room, change the linen, or replenish the towels.

With 2 laptops and other goodies of some value, I am not letting the druggy looking room cleaner in and it looks like I'll need to bring the soiled towels to the front window for replacements. There are two beds so I'll just sleep on the other one for the remainder of my stay...

So much for booking the Executive Suite. Ha Ha.

More notable hotels I've stayed at at the other end of the spectrum and price point:

Four Seasons Hawaii US$1,000/night (free - company paid award trip including deep sea fishing and flight to Oahu to the Pro Bowl)

St. Regis on Times Square NYC $550/night (used points) with Butler Service. Increased to $880/night now.

No waiting outside a window at this lobby check-in.

Westin Excelsior Florence Italy $300/night but stayed with hotel points. Overlooking Ponte Vecchio - a medieval stone arch bridge over the Arno River famous for gold dealers.

Sheraton London Grand Park Lane England $350/night (stayed 3 times with points - near Buckingham Palace and numerous attractions)

No tea service at this hole today. I really don't even want to use their water to make some coffee.

A far cry from the $250 5-course truffle dinner I had in 2002 at the Waldorf Astoria Versailles Trianon Palace Hotel in Paris.

Oh how the mighty have fallen.
