My first 200 miles on the Darkside

So what is the upside of running a car tire?
I did a post on a car tire as I ran one for a year. Once your air pressure is right it doesn't roll up on the side wall and actually in higher sped leans like a highway ramp the bike always felt way more planted at the rear. You do have to push and hold on the bars for turn but it never felt loose at the rear.

My most significant problem running a car tire is when I elect to ride a bike that does not have one. I tend to over-ride the bike with a mc tire...ie unintentionally push the window of traction from being accustomed to more grip from the darkside.

For me it was pure and simple economics. I am on my third season on my Riken and it has enough tread to use it all this year. Riding the flat lands sucked on a Metz rear wear. Now that I r up here in the mountains I feel a bike tire coming back on me. I bought the Storm and have been riding it up here and grinding the peg feeler nuts off because it handles so much better. Need to get back to doing the same on my Rocket. Can't beat the Riken for wet weather traction. I still think that all that rubber contact patch stressed the splines on the drive shaft leading to an early replacement.

I have about 105,000 miles on the DS and, as the song says, I've been everywhere man. I put 5,500 miles on the OEM Metz before it wore out, and was worried every time I used the brake. I find that the DS handles any road conditions that I have encountered, at speeds that may not be considered legal by some, without a problem. (If you are doing racetrack speeds then do them on a racetrack with a bike that is set up for a race track.)

The main down side of the Dark Side is that you have to counter steer a bit more. The second most common problem I have had is taking the time to tell everyone who asks when they see it that it works. The third hardest problem is working out on what to spend the money I saved. (The picture on the left gives the answer.)

Of course, your results may vary, so ride your own ride.

+1000

Got 29,000 miles out of the first Riken. $85 tire and $12 to mount. Now running on my second.

I will never, ever put a Metzler on the back again. It is a safety hazard on non-ABS Rockets. It sucks in the rain and if you try to step on the rear brake, it will lock up and slide out before you know it. Just ask the Captains that have lowsided and highsided because of it. Not an issue with the Riken.

WELL if your getting 20k miles on a car tire Im sure you didnt lube the splines often enough

Pretty Well Sums it up, whilst not yet 100% sure yet but there is a good chance I'll be back on a DS after the Bridgestone wears out as after 4000 km (be interesting as to see how many Km's I get out of it) I have had a couple of step outs where the DS didn't powering out of corners, the bridgey is a harder ride then a DS, whilst it is easier to tip into corners it is not a big difference and with the correct PSI the DS changes direction with ease.
The PSI you run depends on your weight and riding style
