fantastic post ugarte! congrats. are you kidding me? original fuel filter? yer nuts! i pulled mine out at 30k and it was plugged beyond belief. in fact i cut it in half with the band saw just for fun. couldnt believe the bike was still running fine. as far as the valves, mine has never even been checked. 65k miles now, and she still runs like a top. correct me if i am wrong, but arent there many small automotive engines out there running the same type of valve train design? if true, why are valve lash checks not required for those. my rocket same year as yours, and has had the "death rattle" for years, but dissapears as soon as she begins to warm. have always enjoyed your posts, you are the man![]()
No question I am nuts. But we all are for riding motorcycles, its a f##king war zone out there on the streets. My last ride to bring it up to 100k miles I was almost whacked twice by merry mergers who don't even give a thought to looking before they change lanes. But that is part of the game, every cage out there wants to kill you and its your job to make sure that does not happen.
As far as the valves go, I just don't worry about them. It isn't like sucking a valve is a common problem. Its good practice to check and adjust on a regular basis, but it is also good practice not to drink too much or eat the wrong foods......frack that....
I miss the paint can rattle. I am going to take a look at the cam chain to see WTF it stopped rattling.....
