Maybe a dumb battery question

Stocks Yuasa that's right .. read here how good Odyssey batteries are. Service manager at Triumph dealership claims Odyssey now made in China and no better than Yuasa. Just wondered what others are running .. replaced the stock battery in my Speed Triple with a Motobatt , but hearing good and bad stories about that brand as well now.

I replaced my battery after 4.5 years with a motobat 310 cca 21 ah whatever that means ,replaced just before leaving for cairns last year .im sure the goth has the same battery

CCA on a battery stands for Cold cranking Amps it is the capacity rating of the battery to deliver current at o degrees F for 30seconds and maintain a voltage of 7.2 volts it means the higher the CCA the more cranking capacity the battery has.

Goth told me about Motobatt , I'd never heard of the brand. Haven't done many miles on the Speedie since fitting it .. you would have done a few though Pete  thanks mate reckon i'll go with Motobatt.

Don't know how I missed this. Like everything else on these bikes, plenty of people like to deride whatever Triumph put in them originally. I still have the original battery in mine - Yuasa aren't they? - and it's working just fine after 4 1/2 years. I did have some issues starting when it was sub zero and left outside but eliminated that with new terminal bolts and a slightly longer daily ride distance. I think if your bike isn't ridden all the time battery selection is more critical and some will hold their charge better when idle but as you'll be on yours most of the time I'd be just going to a battery or bike shop and getting whatever the listing says. Use it or loose it!

I agree. Yuasas are as good as anything else of the same type.

You should not have to top off the sealed battery. That is BS.
Erm - I've seen this now on several "sealed" batteries.

Unless they're GEL or "dry" types - the innards are still just lead/acid - and the cells still dry out. AGM are still lead/acid. The reason lead acid batteries come sealed is legislative - not because it's technically better. They can still NEED maintenance.

If you live where it's warm and the batteries get warm too (try softails with the battery more or less encased by the oil tank) - the batteries dry out in a matter of months.

I learned my lesson a long time ago about buying sealed batteries off the shelf or on line.Saying to top it off on a sealed battery is a red light ... I'd take it back and tell him you want a battery with the acid seperate and you'll add it yourself. It's a no brainer. A battery ages from the time the acid is added and how can you tell when it was added. Twice buying batteries on line at a sale price i got two lemons. One lasted a year the other six months.YUASA batteries have served me well they come with the acid seperate from the battery also. When sealing the battery don't be afraid to muscle it down till it's flat with the surface.
