Lower Timing Chain Blew-up!!!!!!!

Another Update!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Beginning to sound like a broken record, but, spoke to Baxter today and guess what.............??????????????

Triumph sent the wrong crankshaft?~?~?~?~?

Was putting it together and was dialing in the crank and it had the wrong lettering on the crank. So Triumph is going to overnight the correct crankshaft from England and it should be here tomorrow. Probably won't get the bike until next week?? He thought he might have it together by the end of the week, but I want some miles put on it b4 I get it back. Just a hunch.....

Oh well....the saga continues.

Flip, thanks for the comments.

Ride safe all!!!!!!!!!!!

Dropping in a crank huh? Sounds like a lot of 'junk' went through the mains. I can't believe that it wouldn't be more expeditious for Triumph to just crate a motor off the assembly line and send it DHL. Oh, wait. DHL would probably loose the engine in transit. Fed-Ex that. Arctic Cat could have split my cases and replaced the lower half and a new loaded jug (the sled engines have 3 separate cylinder assemblies) along with a new crank but opted to replace the engine in total with a crate engine. They gave me a continuation warranty on the motor but not the chassis which worked for me. I've had enough of sleds because my tolerance for cold weather sports has diminished quite a bit but if I was in the market for another sled, I'd buy a Cat simply because of the way I was treated by them.

I like your idea of a hunch. Let Baxter's have the bike for a while. Use it as a demo or whatever but accumulate some mileage. I also believe I'd request a warranty continuation on the engine from Triumph just in case. They might be receptive to that but they may not be.

Hopefully this is the final update!!!!!!!!!

Well, the crankshaft finally got in. Thursday Night (more like a 48 hour overnight delivery). So I won't have the bike available until next week. But it sounds like all of the correct parts to put it back together are in the shop. That is great news.............

Well, going on the 5th week without the bike and the weather is turning friggin cold here.

Because of Triumphs screw-up on the parts, should I get or ask for some concessions??? specifically due to the time this bike has been in the shop. Had they got the parts in immediately, this bike would have been back on the road at least two weeks ago. This just doesn't seem right, nothin' against the dealer, they did everything they could and are still doing it?!?!?!? Yes, I know Triumph is repairing the bike at no cost to me, however, the time and the screw-ups on their part just doesn't seem right!?!?!? Am I off key on this one????? Or should I just be happy that the bike is getting repaired????
Thanks.

I really hate to tell you this but, you are off key. As much as I'd like to champion your cause, 'cause I sympathize with it, the only thing you'll do by getting in a pissing match is pissing Baxter's off and that's it. In the end, nobody, including you is going to walk away with a warm fuzzy feeling. Just keep on keeping on, get your bike, thank them and part as friends with no irritation.

Triumph is fixing the bike on their dime and Baxter's is probably eating some of that themselves because knowing Triumph, they probably gave a flat rate for everything.

Now, if you were an owner operator (as in big truck) and your tractor's engine blew up and it was under warranty and it's your lively hood, then usually the OEM will cover your downtime at a pro-rated amount but not your lost revenue or any inconvenience you may have encountered. In as much as your motorcycle is purely luxury you don't have a leg to stand on (hope Hero Blob don't dissect that phrase too).

Hopefully, your repaired Rocket will be as trouble free as the Maytag washing machine.

I would think that the dealer might throw in some freebies or perks at this point. He has ways of getting reimbursed for goowill items. If they understand your situation and you havn't blown your cork at them yet, a nice jacket (or snow suit((it is november)) sure would be a good gesture. But dont hold your breath, they may be takin it in the chin on labor too.

Dealer

After reading the comments, Baxter is getting 100% reimbursement, Triumph is paying the full load. The dealer was surprised on that one. Other than the fact that my bike is taking up space in their shop, which isn't making them happy, they are getting paid for it. I get along great with Baxter and staff, no problems there. They are just as frustrated as I am about this. We (Baxter & I) are good and kool. This is not there fault...

I know that Baxter will do the job right, and I will definitely do business with them again. I actually enjoy the ride over. Triumph is the one that has kinda goofed up here (so I am told), not Baxter......

My comments might have been mis-interpreted. Hope this clears up my thoughts. It is just, winter is here and I have lost out on some great riding over the past few weeks. And I probably won't be able to ride until next spring, the way things are looking anyway.

I was more asking to see if I should/could ask Triumph, because of the part timeliness screw-ups, for a bone?!?!?! My past experiences tell me, take the bike, ride the piss out of it and see if it will breakdown between now and the end of my warranty in July.

Joy on that one, right????? Just venting guys.....

Ride safe!!!!!!

You could always write a letter or a daitribe to Triumph in Newman Georgia and see what comes of it. Nothing ventured, nothing gained in that respect. If you are going to do that please write in that you want one of those "Triumph" license plate advertising logo's they put on the back of all the new bikes. I've tried numerous times to get one for my sidecar and all my letters, phone calls and e-mail messages have fallen on deaf ears.

I didn't renew my AMA membership this year. I called the AMA in Westerville this summer, on my dime, and requested a second decal for my other bike. No problem. Problem was, it never came. Obviously, the AMA is too busy collecting their 25 bucks a year dues to send me a 5 cent decal so fock 'em and that's exactly what I told them in a letter enclosed with my membership dues card this time. I used their pre-paid envelope this time. Ain't heard a word and I don't expect too either.

End of rant.

Good luck.

Update!!

Well, looks like another week before the bike is going to be ready. I hope I don't get charged for rent.......the dealer has another priority to get completed by the end of this week, so my bike is second in line. I wonder if they would store the bike for me over the winter??? Nah, I want to ride it in the cold.....

Ride safe!!!!!!!!
