Looking at the R3

07 Rocket Classic Tourer

Test rode everything on the Market before I settled on my Rocket. Neck inj from work witch doctor said quit riding or find something that wont vibrate you to death. I've put 20k on it in 3 years now and love it. Been on long trips with the wife, we both enjoy it. She got her own bike acouple of years ago. Rocket just alittle tooo big for her. Most of my time I ride solo now.

Only complaint I have is the ignition switch issue, I rewired it on a trip with a keyless system never had another problem.

bottom line you will not be disappointed :D

Here's the simple scuttlebut, djlr:

First a little history: Triumph Rocket III - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Note that the R3Touring model was launched as a 2008 model, I believe. The Tourer model was simply a Classic model with a bunch of nonperformance accessories thrown in by the factory (about $2100 worth of goodies packaged with the Classic model for just $1200 over the Classic's sticker price)

By May or June of 2007 Triumph had corrected most of the defective bits that had required various iterations of what were commonly referred to as "upgrade kits". Essentially, they were unwritten warranty work packages which were more or less payed for by Triumph in their attempt to make right a number of issues the Rockets had early on due to defective third-party parts. Triumph is pretty much done with those "freebies".

Since you seem to be a performance-oriented guy, due to the engine-modded Harleys already in your garage, you should be aware of Carpenter Racing who can turn any model R3 into a fire-breathing, though very efficient and an everyday rider, monster! They are the preeminent shop internationally for providing the best in go-fast engine packages and performance exhaust for the R3s.

If you'd like to speak directly to one of their engineers/designers, send me a PM and I'll put you in touch. These are the same people that are now working directly with Triumph, USA, Ltd, which has been showing off Carpenter's "Silverback": (the 240 kitted Roadster) at all of the recent International Motorcycle Show venues.

my 08 streetglide vs my 08 rocket III classic

the streetglide after building a 103" motor for it, rocks, and is comfortable, have plenty of storage, and 6 speed. it also has the throttle by wire so the cruise control really works great as does the harmon kardon stereo. and the line of accessories is endless. now to the rocket 3, i really enjoy it, and it has brutal power. whenever i go to a mostly harley type of rally, my rocket always draws a crowd. not like if it were a honda or yamaha, but the rocket commands respect, and you just don't see them very often. with my black streetglide, i go to an event or rally, and i gotta search through a sea of other vivid black streetglides to find mine. that sure isn't the case with the rocket. i like them both, and they have their purpose, but i ride my streetglide more, i guess because i'm more comfortable on it. the rocket is more like straddling a brama bull in comparison. the rocket also makes my streetglide feel like i'm riding a 350cc beginners bike.

I loved my 08 Rocket 3-miss it every day. That said, when I replace it it will be with the Roadster. I much prefer my feet under me-like my Tiger, Street 3, and Bonneville have.
I put EDGE 103XL bags on the bike with EZ brackets and it was just fine. Big bags that hold plenty and on/off the bike in 5 seconds per side.

Mods are easy enough. I put Jardines on and a PC 3-simple and effective.

G'day mate;

Best advice I can give is get a rocket and take it for a ride, you'll be hooked and walk around with that same stupid grin we all have. I have the 2010 roadster and love it, I'm a big bloke and I'm more than happy with the stock layout of the roadster seat, pegs, and controls.

Stock pipes sound like a air compressor (Upgrading when funds permit) and you are right nothing has the sound of a Harley but there's a lot more important things than just sound.

The only issue I have had with my roadster is all the power going through the ignitions switch causes a drama, have the triumph fix done, but also have a relay kit to put in soon that will make it even better.

My Mrs loves being on the back except when I give it a twist to get around traffic, it's not the power, acceleration, and speed that worries her it's the bloody costs of the fines.

Mate give one a test ride you'll will either love it or hate it,as it's a entirely different beast to the Harley for a myriad of reasons.

Maybe it was something I said:eek:.

I thought he had posted a long way back (when I was still in the sandbox) but I could be wrong.
