Longest Life rear tire for Roadster?

What's the point? I believe I stated my opinion quite succinctly. You have yours and I have mine. No pissing match required. I don't feel the need to be "right" like you seem to feel. As I stated, it is just my opinion. Ride your car tire. I really couldn't give a rip. This conversation has gone on "ad nauseum" for ages. And it will no doubt continue. You are on your side, I am on no side.

I think he's just wondering how you felt the darkside tire took the joy out of riding. I'm curious too, if it's something you can put words too (some things are hard to explain).
I don't have darkside at the moment, but have clocked maybe 20k miles on them.
For me the only thing I didn't like is that you must have extra care pulling up to a stop (intersections, etc), being wary of uneven road surface. Due to the flat nature of the tire, if you come to a stop on a hump/bump which is off center, the bike will naturally want to tip the other way. Forcing you to be extra cautious.

I have observed on many darkside threads that the first impression a new darksider expresses is how the tire is in slow maneuvers, as well as curvy roads. They usually also state that once they got used to it, adjusted pressure etc it became just fine.
For me, the slow speed maneuvering, even though quite manageable, and the curvys, again, manageable, were just that. Manageable. I am not a dark side "nay-sayer" as has been stated. I was very careful to state several times that this was just my opinion, and that's all it is. For me, part of the joy of riding is getting the very most out of my bike. I don't like having to "manage" it around corners, I'd rather press the bars and have it swoop into the corners following exactly where I have my eyes planted.
Everyone has their opinion about a darkside tire. I ride with folks who have them. I never try to convince them not to. It's a personal choice and I am not one to tell others what to do with their ride. But if I'm asked my opinion, I will give it, and not without a couple of years of experience behind it.
Oh, and I have personally sat in Fred Flintstones car. Look it up, it does exist.

I don't have to manage mine around corners, you ask @HansO :D.
Done the Dragon in Tenessee, the Pigtail in Arkansas, the 3 Sisters in Texas and the Prescott to Sedona road via Jerome in Arizona, all on a dark tire, like others have stated on other threads, on RAAS at least 40% of the rockets that show up are dark siders, one day we counted over 20 at Maggie Valley, they don't advertise it, kinda like the guys that say Hillary out loud but they really mean Donald:D

:thumbsup:I applaud you for being sensible enough to explain what you meant as it was not clear but I read your post as you had intended it and agree with some of it the rest of course is as I have often stated "my/your personal opinion" I think @PacificRimSurveyor thought you were another of those "Naysayers" that take pleasure in disrupting a a discussion on DS tyres just for their personal pleasure even thou in one case having never tried it himself:rolleyes:, I applaud anyone that is open minded to at least give one a proper go, from what I have seen most like them some don't but at least they had a go :)

Very true for a little guy You handle the beast well, used to think that had my size as an advantage with the DarkSide as I have never felt it was something I had to work at, in fact after the first 30 -40- km's it all felt normal only the slow corrugated dirt roads were a bit more work but then even the bike tire required some work on them

And as I said, I'm not a "Nay-Sayer". This is my first Rocket. All my darkside experience is with the Honda Valkyrie and by no means did I try all the possible tires out there. That is why I said it's just my opinion. I just put new tires on my Rocket III Roadster. Yes, OUCH! I love the way it rides though. Doesn't mean I won't ever try a darkside tire on it. The way I would decide that would be through research, talking on forums like this one and attending events. I've ridden several other friends valks that have various tires on them. Of all of them, there is one called the "Austone Taxi Tire" that was pretty close to a "natural" bike tire. Could be one of those out there for the rocket as well. Don't know, haven't looked. As I said, I'm on "no side". I'm open minded about most things and try to keep it that way. Makes life "More funner". It's how I ended up with a Rocket for crimeny sakes!

Nogrey

Really just wanted you to expand on those thoughts.

I've been through 3 sets of Metz, (all they had back then) and a set of Avons.
I like my setup now and I like being different, hence no HD's anymore.
Hell, if everyone went Dark I might have to go back to MC Tires. :roll:
