Lights Project…..I have gone too far!

I guess I should have qualified what the lighting goal is. I sometime forget that a good number of Captain's live in urban area's and this amount of lighting would seem strange. However, please allow yourself to see the road as I do.

First off, I live in Idaho and the population density is pretty sparse. I ride about 10,000 miles a year. Most of this is done on 2 lane paved roads throughout southern Idaho. I know the smaller back roads very well, and avoid the freeway whenever possible.

Most of my rides are about 6 hours long (300 miles +) each ride. Very little city riding. If you know Idaho, then you can understand this statement. On the 6 hour ride at least 4 of those hours I have no traffic either ahead of me or coming the other way nor do I see houses. So, when I set out to do lights, I wanted them bright. Deer are always a year round issue on these back roads. Our deer here tend to be on the large size (120lbs to 250lbs) and if you hit one with a bike at speed, it is pretty much Dirt Nap Time. Few survive this event. Perhaps some of you from down under can understand the open road concept.

Additionally, with a lot of open roads, Cagers tend to daydream and will not notice you. Added to the fact that most encounters are at a high rate of relative speed, and light travels a lot faster then sound. Besides that most of these guys are listening to country music and that sick horn we have pretty much sound like it belongs in their music selection.

But, the good news is, I have the opportunity to reach 100mph at some point on just about every ride. I have posted this link before, but here is a youtube of just one of my rides. Turn your sound down first. As you watch the video, ask yourself, In the dark, would you want more or less light on that road? Is there such a thing as too much light for Deer spotting?

But thanks for the comments..... I get it!!!

My comment, as I'm sure the others were, was all in good fun.

Life is always easier when you have the right tool for the job at hand. It appears you have created exactly the right tool for your needs. Very well done!!

I agree with you my friend i am currently researching the viability of installing HID projectors (so I don't blind oncoming drivers) when I am done I should have a setup that greatly is greatly improved over the stock headlights and draws about 1/2 the wattage

Leagal? maybe not

I cheated and used a cheap trick
I mounted 2 bycycle high intensity white lights in my crash bars they have 2 modes steady and rapid flashing a 1 watt LED ..

When I have to ride in remote county and outback areas in West Aus. I set them to flashing mode the result is brilliant although I believe illigal, so I switched them off in populated areas where the police lerk.

I find that all traffic suddenly reverts to the speed limit and moves left and any road user entering my space sits stationary until I pass day or night.. their faces are a picture :D

Having said this I am certain in W.A. it is questionable as to weither these are classed as mimicing an emergency vehicle.. but they are used on the road fitted to pedal cycles. My reason for fiting them was self preservation.

I just install KC 260,000 candle power baja lights on my crash bar. It is so brite when I turn the rocker on. It is three times as brite as the headlights in brite mode.

Have on my peddle bike. Now I know where it will be. Has on and blinking mode. Thought it would be good approaching intersections if someone is not noticing the Rocket coming down the road.

Mount between head lights, duck tape for demo, now how will I turn on off and blinking? Website error code on vidieo. Using iPad unable to post, thus pic...
