I've mentioned the lift/garage jack combo I got a while back (Bahco BH1M1000) and the lifting adapter I also got (from http://www.kern-stabi.de - unfortunately they don't ship to the US as far as I know, but might be something for the European members if they need to lift the Rocket). Both these products are pretty European I guess, though there are plenty of nice bike jacks to be had of course.

Anyway, here's a pic I took of them working together; sorry for the potato quality, must have shaken the phone when I took it.

The red plate is the adapter, it hooks into the frame holes on the bike and provides a perfectly flat lifting surface. The orange lift just slides in under and then you can pump the bike up, the whole process from putting the plate on and lifting the bike takes a few seconds, just slide the pins you can see in this pic into the mounting holes, put the lift under the bike and lift. Very sturdy while on there, too.

If you push down very hard on the rear of the bike you can feel a slight tendency to tip backward, so I probably won't go removing wheels without using straps over the bike or from the engine bar and perhaps the pannier protecor bar to the lift, to prevent tipping forward/back.

Just thought I'd take a pic and post it in case anyone wanted to see.

Other side, lift a bit lower; here you can clearly see I sloppily slid the lift in a bit too far, and it's not centered; still a very stable lift and bike was rock solid on there:

Very happy with the whole setup. Cost a few bucks when you add it up but it works.

It looks good - and looks a lot better than some of the cheaper bike jacks and lifters you see on ebay - but it should at the price. I'm looking for something to lift my trike occasionally so this might fit the bill so thanks for posting. And with a 1000kg capacity this should do the job for me.

Yeah I got a merely high price on my lift, they had a sale during the bike show where I spotted it. But it's a nice unit, super heavy and just oozes trustworthiness. And the round rubber "puck" you can see on it in the picture is in its storage slot in those pics - the two rails that the bike is lifted on are removable, and you then put the round puck in a hole in the middle of the lift and hey presto, now you have a garage lift for cars that can lift a metric ton. Enough to do tire changes on normal sedans for instance, especially European sedans. So it can do more than just hoist the bike, even though it does that well. So I decided I'd rather pay a little for a quality piece than get some 100-euro cheapo special...

Your trike is probably quite tail-heavy though, it will most likely not lift cleanly with just this. The lift can handle the weight, but the weight distribution will probably be such that the front will come off the ground before the rear does, if you try to lift under the center of it this way. I'd imagine.

Thanks Croft - yeh it is likely that the weight distribution on the trike would be tail heavy but I was thinking a couple of heavy duty straps would sort it and then i would put a couple of axle stands under the back end to do a few maintenance things. I normally crawl around on the garage floor so getting it up in the air would be a big relief.

You could do a combo of this lift and then get a normal cheap garage jack and put that under the rear axle and lift carefully - a little under the engine, then a little under the rear axle, and so on until the trike was hoisted. Maybe. I don't think even this is stable enough to keep the rear in the air without the whole lift tipping backwards otherwise. Depends on how much weight the trike conversion parts adds back there, I guess.

I'd like to make one of these in my workshop...unless yours is now for sale?
