IT seems this thread has developed into a helmet debate.

I have a variety of helmets. 1/2, 3/4, Full face. I wear them depending on the conditions.

Today it was 84 and humid. I wore my 1/2 helmet. Yesterday, I wore my 3/4.
It's my choice. I know the risks. I got hit from behind by a truck last year, and know full well what it feels like to have my head smack the pavement, after it smacking the front end of the truck. I had a 1/2 helmet on that day. I've tried riding without one a few times, and don't really care for it. I'd like to wear full gear all the time, but I choose not to. Mostly because I overheat easy. I have 5 different jackets from mesh to leather. This warmer weather (it's not even hot yet) makes wearing the mesh jacket too much for me. Again, my choice.

I don't hear much about helmets or other gear aren't a good idea. I think most people know that gear is important. People wear what they want to wear. I might laugh at some squid speeding down a busy road in shorts and tank top with a $900 helmet on. Still, it's their choice.

Ride safe friends

You are 100% right. It's your melon. Problem is, along with adulthood comes responsibilities to others besides yourself so while it's your melon, someone is probably depending on you to get home in one piece because they care about you.

Vanity is 1% of life. Living is 99%.

I live in a Free state and almost always wear a helmet. Not always as I have always hated them and fought against helmet laws just like you. Started wearing them in Phoenix to keep the hot air out of my eyes, drying out my contacts. Got used to them and now usually wear one. Work on a military base also and have to wear one there. I noticed you mentioned the little helmets some guys wear. I always think it funny that here where no one has to wear one, some guys wear the little "novelty" helmets for some reason. I remember one of the auguments against mandatory helmet laws was that without it being the law, only the real things would be around because no one would have the need for the junk ones. I guess some of the Harley "bikers" thinki the beenie is part of the "look". dumbasses.

Ya can's see the dew rag from under a full face:eek:

That's why I call Rossmeyers "Destination Daytona" poser palace. I have a dewrag I bought at the Cabbage patch for bike week. I needed something to cover my thinning head and my Triumph cap wouldn't stay on. First one I ever owned. Bandana's cost the same so got me a sovinier.

Well Ive read the replys and I have to say I love not having to wear a helmet now granted I do 60 percent of the time but there are times that I dont want to. Last fourth of july was one of those times however a lady in a car pulled out in front of me and never saw me I hit her about 45 miles per hour and went over the car so did my 06 rocket I survived with 7 stitches in my head and my rocket was totalled. While at the hospital getting my stiches the doctor told me I was lucky if I would have been wearing my helmet I probibly would have broke my neck my neck is still stiff but Im getting used to it. Now I should have been wearing my leather coat but it was in my saddle bag it was hot, so I'll live with the road rash scars on my back, but I THINK ITS YOUR OWN CHOICE ON WHAT YOU WEAR WHEN YOU RIDE. As I was waiting for my wife to pick me up at the hospital a helicopter landed with another motercycle driverwho was in an accident and he had the gear head to toe and he never made it out of the helicopter. I know I was lucky and I thank god every day but its not going to slow me down or keep me from riding. I bought a new 08 phantom black while I was still healing from the accident becouse I missed my grey 06. Today the street sweepers went by and I went on my first ride this year and it was great 40 degrees sunglasses and my coat along with my gloves.:D Let the season begin and the good times roll, LIFES TO SHORT AND TO EACH THERE OWN.
