Back to the thread: manufactured vehicles always have compromises to comply with lots of regulations, so people like myself find ways to un-compromise what we buy to suit ourselves. I don't want to ride a sewing machine, so I need to change the exhaust to suit that desire. I need to also make sure that, while the bike was safe before, I don't take it past the threshold of safe with my modifications. I also don't give one **** about emissions, which is why they run lean at all.
But that's what makes this hobby great. You can keep yours stock, I can change mine to make my smile just a little bit wider, and mad scientists can slap on superchargers.

i think that the late model is probably set pretty good with its different modes of riding.
also do not think the removing the cats causes the bike to run any richer or leaner the cats just clean up the gas/air going thru them especially in the fast mode

The can of worms is that if you make significant changes to the stock bike, you need to be able to compensate with adjustments to the engine management, if necessary. You can always get it dyno tested, change out the exhaust and retest it. But if you need to add fuel, how are you going to do it?

If I purchased another Rocket stock... would I mod the motor??? If it was a 2020 nope. Not hacking a 25k toy. If it was a pre-2020 Yep. From what I hear the new bike handles much better. I would need a back rest to keep me on the bike, a little more wind blast protection and a new sport helmet.

I'm on the sidelines but, if a used one comes along, I might jump in.

That's right. The changes probably serve the high rev portion of the powerband best. I seldom go over 5k rpm. Have not tried just plugging in the old stock tune to see what happens. The TOR/CatDelete sound is much better. Kind'a loud. I use two TOR + one of the stock pipes. Best compromise between loud and basting.

Just wait for my hacked up used one to get put for sale. I don't anticipate getting sick of it, but I make bad life choices as standard operating procedure.

It's not the act of removing the cats that makes it run lean. It's that motorcycles have the dumb narrow band oxygen sensors and can't adapt properly to a higher than expected rate of airflow from removing restrictions.
