K&N Filters ok in the rain?

If you do the 12 minute tune after installing, you should be OK. I put mine on the dyno after installing the filters and the fuel to air mixtures were real close to where they needed to be. We tweaked a little and found a couple more horses. Just my opinion, but if you are looking for performance, why not go the extra mile and get a tuneboy or power commander so you can fine tune as you add other goodies down the road?

Fellow Aussies please correct me , but i dont think our Rockets have the Cat only the box it comes in.I dont want to sacrifice too much fuel economy as the 'hippo' is my primary mode of transport, though i do have a 4wd Toyota , but why would you want to get around in that when you ride a rocket all the time? At the moment I would be happy if it barked a bit louder and I didnt have to look at those headers!I am not in the $ at the moment to buy any of these marvelous toys , but a Pred system would be top of the list so far , if its possible for me to acquire one.I probably would get the Tuneboy in the future , but its a case of getting things piece by piece, thus the questions re ; running Preds on a stock bike except for a different tune , which it sounds like is a must.

You should be fine as long as you do the 12 minute tune after install. You won't have any where near peak performance, but the computer will compensate for the changes you make and adjust what it needs to.

I thought that was the original 200 made that had empty cats. Anyway I ran mine for several months with stock mufflers and the triumph cat delete. I definitely made it louder and gave it some pep. Of course I had done the triple k&n mod too. The intake mod gives you a new sound too! If your cat is empty your bike isn't whisper quiet.

Whether you will be dangerously lean after fitting triple filters will depend on your current factory tune. I wouldn't trust any factory tunes to be good enough to run for long if you have both performance exhaust and triple filter intake. You won't kill your bike right away but will probably burn your valves in a short time.

Rockets with empty cats were the ones produced for the U.S. market (except California) in 2004/2005. Should be a few thousand of them. After 2005 all Rockets everywhere came with a complete catbox.

Far as rain and filters, anything under the bearclaw is safe and even partially exposed filters with a cut bearclaw should have enough protection in the average rain fall. No cover at all though, I would put on some pre-filters to keep things running well.

I ride in the rain at times as well as on dirt roads.Do the K&N filter pods cope ok with the rain ,stuck out in the breeze? Are they sufficient to guard against dust being sucked into the motor?Also i noticed ages ago that someone posted a comment that their Rocket K&N pods catching on fire after a back fire!Have many others encountered this?Is the mod worthwhile regarding performance increase?

The fire hazard was not the k&n's but the TB pods which are nothing but springs with a foam cover. My k&n's have worked fine in the rain. I keep them cleaned and well oiled though. In fact I usually end up with excess oil dripping off them after the first ride. If you get the k&n's, order the recharging kit too. The cleaner that comes in it works great and makes cleaning them a breeze. I don't use a bearclaw and get a lot of stares when I'm sitting at a traffic light.
