Jardine cackle and pop

As I throttle off on my R3 ,it makes some loud exhaust noises,like loud bangs .
The previous owner says the Jardines were fitted by the dealer and the engine has been tuned for them.

Is this normal or can it be tuned out or quietened a little?

I too would benifit from your knowlege of tables.

I remember seeing a post about it several weeks back. Mine pops like a banshee.

What table do you adjust?

Go into the L tables ( remember to adjust all 3 of them) on the left axis you will see numbers from 0 up. the important ones to adjust are from 220 to 500ish( forget exact number on the axis but its the first 500 number) highlight each row across from 600 revs to like 3400revs & increase ( page up button) all the numbers in the row by about 10%. Might also be worth setting the 0 line at the bottom to the value of 610 across the whole bottom line.. but there was a post that map pressures ( the x axis figures) don't drop that low.. so might make no difference. No harm in it tho
If this doesn't do enough, enrich the F tables at the low throttle end. Go into fuel trims table & enter 2-4( trial & error to find best increase) from 600 revs to 2000 revs from zero throttle % up to 8% throttle.

Popping is caused by leaness on a closed throttle. Hot unburned hydrocarbons detonate in the pipe. Enriching the tune cools the gasses & reduces detonation.. at the expense of fuel tho...

I did so tuneboy run throughs a while back, click forum, look for tuneboy, then see tuneboy tutorial by Blastedbones. I included photos of some of these tables ( including fuel trims) you can see numbers adjustment I used for my bike,a while back, when I just had slip on aftermarket pipes.
Obviously tuneboy allows you to home tweak to your hearts content, but perfection can't be achieved easily without a tuneboy operator dyno session. I had got my home tune pretty good & responsive, but the dyno guy got another 10 torque out of it :lol: ( same curves but just more everywhere)

Or a Power Commander. I will not maximize performance like the Tuneboy but will substantially enhance performance, eliminate the back popping and is "plug and play".

The dealership here told me the same thing but it isn't true. They downloaded the TORs tune, which you probably have and have discovered is insufficient. I tried it and found the same thing. N1 had my Jars before me, and like yours, the dealership had fitted them and installed the tune. N1 got the PC3 to get rid of the backpopping and it did so. John still has the PC3 with with a custom tune for his Preds.

I bought a Tuneboy in a group buy but sold it when a PC3 became available at a good price. I also have the GiPro. I opted for plug and play instead of customizing tunes and possibly wiping my ECU slick like a few on this forum have done. There is a learning curve associated with TB which I decided not to take on. The cost of a TB is actually less than if you get the GiPro and PC3 new. The TB is more versatile and has a troubleshooting software with it.

If I had to do it again, I'd probably go with the TB, only now because I am more knowledgeable about ECUs and would feel more comfortable about using it. Plus, there is a lot of technical help on this forum should something go wrong.

Thay lie,they would have put in a Triumph tune and thats about it.
Your bike is running lean :wink: the only way to improve things is to purchase the pc3 or Tune boy :wink:
Tune boy is a better option in my opinion.

Learn to love the noise! Setting off car alarms on the over run is childish, but fun. Can't see the point in throwing fuel into a motor on a closed throttle.
