Issues changing to 2nd gear

Hi,
I’m having issues with my 59 (2009) plate rocket, won’t change up into 2nd or will eventually but will then drop out of 2nd gear into neutral, no issues in any other gears, been told it could be a detent spring would I be along the right lines with this?

That would be the first thing I'd look at, also the cheapest

In my limited experience so far the easiest way to diagnose the detent spring is to accelerate hard and then suddenly back off the accelerator. The bike will drop out of gear and into neutral regardless of the gear it is in when you do it.

Just had a ride up and down road on it it’s only kicking out of gear in 2nd doing this if I set off in 3rd and do this it’s fine

could be rounded dog rings if it jumps out and back into gear

Have the same issue. Word is just go from 1st to 3rd and skip 2nd from now on. That or have the trans rebuilt. The issue is the dog selector for 2nd is shot. Very common on these. There is a company that can fix this for $$$. Nothing you can do. They undercut the gear engagement so it can't pop out and replace the worn dog
