I put the Carpenter pipe on my Roadster and moved the foot controls forward 8". I love the bike now but the heat coming off the header is cooking my pants and boots. I bought a couple rolls of DEI lava header wrap that I plan to install. Heat shields won't work as the front pipe makes a quick turn and won't allow a heat shield to clamp on. Any other ideas? I think along with the heat wrap, I may stich some heat barrier silver material to my boot/pants.

Is the bike tuned properly for the pipes? If it's running lean, it would run hotter. I talked to Bob Carpenter a couple weeks ago, he said the pipes come with heat shields now.

Probably a bit lean. Shield will work on rear tubes but not front one. Might need to wrap them.

Torpedo,
I sure would like to see just how you did the 8" forward controls mod to your Roadster.
Any pix and parts list?

Mate if they can bend the pipe to make an exhaust .. they can bend the pipe to make a heat shield. From experience I can tell you that wrap alone won't stop your leg slow-roasting .. needs heat-shields. You're not seriously going to sew a patch of heat barrier material to your strides , are you

Riding (actually moving) in winter is not too bad .. stationary in summer is murder. Your leg feels like it's been set on fire waiting for the traffic lights to turn green.
