In the next couple of days, I'm going to Marne IA to drop off my R3 for a much needed upgrade at Baxter's. Anybody along the I35 corridor that would like to meet and have a cold one, send me a msg.

I was excited at first, but I'm on the wrong end of I-35.. lol

You're right next door to RPM Cycles with two other fairly reputable Triumph dealers nearby and you're taking your bike all the way to Baxter's? I know Baxter's is good from all the reports, and I haven't been to RPM Cycles in a good while, but I wouldn't have had a problem with them working on my Rocket at all back when I bought it from them.

Experience

Going to Baxter's for a couple of reasons. Mainly, they have tons of experience with the upgrades. When I mention the upgrade package to other dealers, they look back at me like a deer in the headlights. When I called Baxters, I got nothing but a "what can we do to help" attitude. They took my vin and got the upgrade authorized through Triumph before I even took skoot in. They are installing the Lush cams for me for free because they have to pull the old cams anyway. I'm impressed with Gus.

I will probably be up at Baxter's on August 1st (a Saturday). Do you know when you will go back to pick your bike up?

Some of us will also be up there for his Rally on Aug. 21, 22, and 23. That would be a cool weekend to pick your bike back up...

Will you be coming thru Kansas City and when if so? You will probably want to jump off of 35 and pick up 29 instead. Even if you go thru Omaha it's shorter than going to Des Moines and coming back. I get off of 29 north of St. Joe Mo. and take 71 up to Atlantic Iowa and then shoot over to Marne, but that's kind of the back road scenic route. You need a good map for that, but its not all that hard and that's really about the shoirtest and fastest and it gets you off of the interstate.

You are gonna like Gus and Randy and be sure to go in the 'Back Room' and take in all the bikes. I'll be in Marne in August as well. My wife and I are going out for the rally, well, I am. Tomo and Amy are antique shopping.

I'll have the Bonnie out there. Rocket stays at home. I thought I was holding the distance record at 643 miles one way bit I think you have me beat.

My bike is running first class.

Be sure to get over the Marne Tavern and get a Marne Burger.

Baxters

Let me know when you will be there, I am less than a tank away and would be glad to buy you a cold one.

Gus just put on an Avon for me and loaded a new tune, no more fuel cut out at 125mph (do I really need to go faster???) and a bunch more go from 80 on up.

Shoot, maybe we could grab wildwilley could go snipe huntin, cow tippin or rabbit chasin!:p

Baxters road trip

I finally got her up on the trailer and about to head north. I'm looking forward to meeting those who responded and are on the route. I plan on spending the night somewhere around Kansas City MO. Should be getting there about 9PM. I plan on delivering the machine around 12 noon. I intend to take my time to visit with whomever and also the trip back. My cell is 940 206 6131

Thanks guys....looking forward to meeting other captains and picking a few brain cells (perhaps destroying a few too if we can find a watering hole).

Ken

recap

Made the trip with no problems. Many thanks to Pigger and Billz for the phone escort as it made the trip seem to go faster. Also, had a great visit in person with Billz at Baxters. (I'd met Billz at RAAIV.)

Baxter's was worth the trip albeit very long. I'm still sure it was the right thing to do. It was worth the trip if nothing else to see all the vintage Brit bikes. Plus, Billz is still a hoot.

Baxter's is one more impressive operation.
