I quit my job yesterday

Clinging to a job that sucks is a ticket to non-stop misery, so good for you that you landed on your feet. 2 weeks of vacation is pretty bad though. Heck, a month is way too little, at that.

Ya, America is way behind Europe in vacation time. But it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make to get back to doing what I enjoy the rest of the time. Just not being treated like something someone stepped in will be worth it !

My father was a pilot for a major airline for over thirty five years, when new management came in they got rid of all the old timers and offered them an early retirement package. I remember going to his retirement party and looking at how they got rid of some really experianced personal. It's all about the buck today not the employees "sad".. I can't wait to retire, that gyniecological job in Colorado that was posted here a few days ago sounds interesting...:DGood luck with the new job....

As some of you may remember from earlier postings I have not been happy at my job for some time. We got bought by a big cooperative from Canada several years ago, and it's been downhill ever since. When I getting ready to off for cancer treatment I was told my role would be changing some. Didn't give it to much thought. When I came back I found I had been demoted to line mechanic. I had been an automation specialist for about ten years prior. Always got good reviews and a raise every year. I came back to find I was right back where I started 19 years earlier, 2nd shift line mechanic. There was one prick from this new company who took a dislike to me. Never did get an answer out of him why. I can only assume I must look like a guy he caught banging his wife. Anyway I landed a job 11 miles from my house (the old job was 37). They matched my rate of pay, I'm back in automation and back on first shift. They have better insurance and better 401K match. The only downside is having been at the other place so long I had 5 weeks of vacation. Only two now, they don't negotiate vacation time. I may have to miss RAA 10 :(. I think it's going to be a good thing for me though. My old job was sucking the life out of me. Watching them hire all my bosses buddies and they getting the good jobs/hours. Last night was the last day of the pay period. When my shift was over, I loaded up my toolbox left. F_ck their two weeks notice. I will never go back there. That one arsehole has driven nearly all the older experienced maintenance people away. Funny, when they bought that company it was making a million dollars a month profit. For the last couple years we have been losing that much a month. Finally last month we managed to clear $8,000 profit. Shortly after that, the do nothing plant manager had his office remodeled !

I'm glad it's worked out well for you. Such situations usually don't have a happy ending. The license plate bracket on the back of my truck states: "Labor Unions - Capitalism For Workers".

Glad it worked out for you Fred, the money you save not having to go that extra 26 miles to work will pay for your unpaid extra two weeks holiday I reckon

I think it takes a special kind of person to be self employed. Not sure I have enough drive. Also with my health history I have to have GOOD insurance. Even with insurance my PET scans cost me almost $900.00 each until I reach my $2500.00 deductible. I don't think O'Blommy care is going to help me much.
I agree with your reasoning totally. How are the scans turning out? Hope you can afford to RAA it.

I too agree and identify with all those here who've "trained their bosses". I did the same for 20 years cuz of having only 2 years formal education. That is what gave me incentive to finish up and then some more after I took an "early out" package. The extra book learnin' didn't help me get another job but it felt good to be able to feel superior to all the past "managers" I had trained.
