How to remove the ignition switch

That (bloody) switch is held in with two security bolts, the heads of which snap off when they are torqued at the factory.

So there's nothing to get a grip onto.....

You'll need to be creative to get 'em out.... perhaps a small cut-off wheel on a Dremel to cut a slot in the head, then wind 'em out with a small screwdriver?

Don't forget to swear mightily while doing it. Helps.

It's a right-royal P.I.T.A.................:pullhairout: :pullhairout: :pullhairout:

Thanks Ruzzle, I look forward to doing more swearing then I've already done, I just couldn't figure out how to remove the ^&%#$ thing. I wonder what bright pommy mind came up with that idea.

I used a 4 mm socket on 1/4 in drive rachet and a flat screw diver to wedge the socket up agianst those tamper proof screws it took a while one click at a time

Thanks to you all for your replies. I had already ordered a new switch, it should arrive tomorrow, keep fingers crossed. Will let you know how I go removing those stupid bolts, I guess it's to stop theft, but you must be desperate to go to such length as to removing the ignition switch, normal bolts would have been fine in my opinion.

They ARE .... when you put it all back together!!! :D

You haven't said WHY you are replacing the switch???

Couldn't get the bike started, the problem was getting worse over time. I had to jiggle the key to get the instrument lights to light up and be able to start. Sometime the engine would stop while riding (not a nice experience, particularly when going through the twisties) and I had to jiggle the key to get it going again. In the end the only way I could get the bike started was by pushing the key down and hold it there, as soon as I would stop holding the key down it would stop. Decided that the switch was f***ed. (got a 2006 Classic done about 62K)
