Welcome to the site from New Jersey and congratulations on your purchase, Wampuel.

I'm roughly one hour west of Times Square, NYC and surrounded by beautiful rural countryside and fantastic motorcycle roads, so I virtually insist that you consider this as your last stop before returning to Switzerland, if you are departing from either Newark Liberty or Kennedy Airports.

Please tell us a bit more about yourself!

dear r3 owners

i just bought my r3 in la, even though im still in switzerland at this time. i plan to take a 5 week bike trip through the us and then ship the bike back home for use here.

welcome to the site ,enjoy the ride but have you checked if a US spec R3( you buy a US based vehicle) will pass the swiss conformity regulation??

i would think that some one could do a tune that would pass any emission test.

It's not just the emissions test. Not sure about Switzerland, but it would be cost prohibitive for a German. And one of our new Nordic members on here wouldn't even consider going through all the hassle to buy a used one in the states and ship over. Import taxes alone in most of Europe would be %30 or higher. And for some crazy reason, even though the triumph is built in England and most parts are EC compliant, it would still have to be "converted". Even the "dual" speedo could be a problem since its m/km. It was a valid question. I will say motorcycles are far less hassle than cars. Most don't even consider that until it's granted "antique" status. Plus, here in Germany your tax on the vehicle registration is based on HP as well!

the swiss bureaucracy is even more touchy than the german TUV!! down to some bolts and nuts but hey their swiss cheese "gruyere " does not have the same holes we are used to anymore go figure?

i just bought a used car in germany last month and moved it to switzerland without trouble, i even payed a lot less (about half) that i would have for something comparable here in switzerland. i talked to triumph eu and they said they can write me a paper that confirms the conformity with eu laws, which is important for the swiss people to be able to register the leafblower. obviously you always run the risk of not being able to drive it due to regulations and bull****, but i am fairly confident, that i can make it work as i did for the car. and here in switzerland the import taxes are slim to non, i think we pay about 30$ per 100kg, thats what, 180$? not a whole lot considering the bike would cost me 22'000$ here in switzerland.

however i also found out, that not all the brands are helpful in this. harley davidson for example costs twice as much in switzerland than in the us, and to protect their prices they refuse to help you with the papers, which makes importing a bike to switzerland nearly impossible.

i like the adventure and the challenge of the whole endeavor, same as with the car, i found it most challenging and amusing :D

i will keep you posted

and triumphil, would you mind giving me a topic about which you would like to know more, before i bore you with details your not interested in? ;)
