Hello from Chatham, UK

Hi all. I take delivery of a new-to-me 2010 Rocket 3 Roadster next Saturday.

Having only owned bikes from 1970s and currently a 1996 Yamaha Thunderace talk of Bearclaws and Power Commanders is a bit new to say the least. I've never owned a bike with fuel injectors but know enough that they aren't the same as carbs and you need to have a fuel map via the ECU.

Other than that zip.....

Should I a) not fix it before it's broken b) not fiddle with it as this beast puts out more power than my first 4 bikes put together c) happily tinker away with open-ended spanners and a fag paper to set the points...??

I bought the bike as I do like big powerful bikes but the current Mrs B won't go on the 'Ace so I needed something comfy for a little light touring to the coast / country. The idea is to get to the coast / country and then go walkabout.

I had a Pan European (quite top heavy but very comfy) which was great as all our 'stuff' went in the panniers / top box. I was thinking to get a top box on the rear rack for boots / armoured trousers / gloves and then put a heavy chain through an arm each of our jackets & lids so they're secure....

Any tips for alternatives welcome :)

Great to be here in the forum and really glad to be an R3Owner
Hi Malcolm B , welcome to the forum , Mick from West Yorkshire.

Hello Malcolm B from Chesterfield UK.
There is a Resource tab which has maps that can be downloaded via TuneECU - lots of posts available that explain what to do. If you do not plan on changing the header or air intake or needing any more ponies then you could leave her as standard, therefore no need for TuneECU, although you can interrogate the EMS and look at settings and problem codes.

BigNorm mentioned that it is a good idea to sit on your hands for awhile and try the big girl out first. The key thing to keep in mind is that it is not cheap to make changes and therefore it makes sense to do things only once.:ninja:
There are plenty of people on here that use their Rocket for 2 riding so they will give you advice with specific questions.

I found that I needed to ride her for several trips covering about 1000 miles before I started to get to grips with what things I wanted to change.

Again as others have said just get out and ride and watch out for the huge grin factor:D - the biggest problem I see for you is the weather:thumbsdown: - I hope you manage to dodge the rain, wrap up warm and you will have a great time.

ride and :)

Hi and welcome from Belvedere not far from you.Have two sisters one in Strood and one in Rochester. My advice like the other guys have said get out and ride and then you will know what mods you want to do. But be warned it can take over your life ruin your marriage and bankrupt you:sneaky::evil: but boy is it worth it:Denjoy:thumbsup:

Many thanks all for your welcome and advice. I will surely treat her gently at first.....maybe always! I'll keep an eye out for you bigprop as I'm quite often in Bexley

Welcome from Utah USA. I agree with taking your time to get to know it a bit. In my case it took about five days.:laugh::laugh:. I put some rivco risers on, and added a tachometer right off. It took me about a year to get brave enough to mess with the ECU maps.
Have a blast it WILL grow on you!!! And you will find everything you need right here, this forum has saved my butt more that once.
