Head Gasket Leaking

Well if he can't get a goodwill repair from Triumph and doesn't want to spend the grand on the repair ... I can attest to the liquid made by Steel Seal. Their ad is actually on the side of this thread. We used it to fix an old Dodge Colt (mitsubishi) head gasket. Figgured we had nothing to lose and wasn't going to spend any time or real money messing with it since it was just a yard mule and the stuff worked. We had thrown that brown goop in a few times to no avail and one of the guys had some steel seal he found in wrecked tow truck. I had seen the "how to" video before and we just followed the instructions and watched the video again. I still don't know if I would put it in one of my personal cars, but after seeing it seal up that pile of junk I might have to consider it.
Keep after Triumph, they might come through.

Cheekygrin, you have been here, for sure. Does anyone have contact info for Triumph rep for North America? I think this is worthy of a call. It looks like a commom problem. I am not sure if the dealership understands they even have and option to pursue a goodwill repair?

p.s. yes Warri, Delta state hehe, carbombs ruined my lunch hour just last week.

I have the North American Triumph reps phone number. PM me if you still need it.

result :)

I have to say, this is a very fine friendly board - I like how people rally round to help each other out.. fantastic!

Maybe also send an email to Triumph themselves too - or give them a call - be good to at least let them know of issues in person too?

I hope Triumph helps you in some way, but you did buy a bike with no warranty and I take it sold as is.
Triumph stepped up and supplied me with the whole key set up free of charge when my ignition switch started to fail and my bike was three years out of warranty with over 40000miles trouble free riding, but if they did not I would not have held it against them.

Agreed

I totally agree on both sides as far as the seller of the bike and Triumph, I ain't asking for a lynch mob, just some of that brand loyalty building, superior customer service; as well I don't think the seller knew about it either..... However if there appears to be a pattern of leaking head gaskets or at least and legitimate amount of failures, or even the perception of such it would only enhance brand image and support resale if Triumph stepped up and fixed it. In order for me, down the line, to purchase the latest and greatest Rocket III, I will need to get maximum resale for my old one. Its trickle down economics heheheehe. I love my Rocket III, but it seems like if ignitions switches, head gaskets and other problems constantly occur it can only help the brand if they take care of them?

saw the bike up on the lift today. was over at that deeler getting the rear tire replaced.
I have to admit. is nice to go in to a dealership for british bikes and have them speak english. In this side of the states they tend to speak a lot more spanish than english. at least they did where I got my bike at.

and yep, that r3 looks like a nice one. your buddy will be happy once he takes off on it for the first time.

as for their prices, I am not sure how they are, but the people there do tend to know the bikes they service. and when you go in to get the bike, take a walk to back side of the shop, they got some nice older bikes on display back there.

Or......................your buddy can bring up the fact that he is spending quite a bit on bling and if they want that business than get triumph to warranty it....which should not be a problem.....they just want his money and not what triumph pays on the warranty....which i believe will be less than the grans they want. So if they refuse than cancel the bling order and take the bike somewhere else. This is America and choice is one of the greatest things we have. Excess choice or not we still have choices and there is more than one way to skn a cat!!! Good luck

Dealer update

I have bought allot of stuff from this dealer. I like the very knowledgeable lady behind the parts counter she has schooled me on several options for my bike. The service guy seems very sharp, they claim they have not seen many leaking head gasket issues on Rockets and this is only the second one they have repaired. Their take on this is, it's the customer's responsibility to contact triumph for extended warranty or goodwill repairs, but they did say if Triumph calls they would definitely support the customer and tell them the bike is pristine with no signs of abnormal wear or abuse so I guess it's up to David my buddy to keep on Triumph for help, as a new captain. Thanks for the help guys. I have no way off comparing prices put I know the job is intensive. These guys have been around for awhile and sell and work on allot of European iron, I'm gonna say their definately the best choice, we got around our neck of the woods.
We'll see what Triumph does, and I'll follow up. Thanks again.

PS if your in the area its very true, they have some cool old iron to look at.

I was wondering...has anyone ever experience multiple head gasket failures ? I recently had the head gasket replaced on my 08 R3T. I looked at the old gasket....I saw nothing obviously wrong with it. Certainly nothing that would cause an oil leak like the one I experienced. The bike seems fine now but I am a little concerned for the future. Anyone ever have a second leaky head gasket ?

I have a 2008 touring. The head gasket started leaking just after the first service. Mechanic said that the gasket had a crease in it. Could be that the gaskets are no good right from the start, or the workers on the assembly line are not taking the care that should be taken when the head is lowered into place and buttoned up. You can bet I will be changing the coolant every two years. 1000.00 seems way out of line. I hope your buddy gives Triumph a call. Would be interesting to know how many on this forum have had the same problem.

I have a 2014 Roadster and I had the same issue, triumph did fix it no charge, even after warranty was expired.
