Like Sonny I pretty much always wear full gear. I've been riding for yonks in several countries and I've seen too much gravel rash to want more of my own. The worst thumps have been due to other road users and my worst injuries were minimized by having good gear on. Nothing prepares you for a sheet of heavy plywood flying of a truck and slamming you in the face. Leather Jacket had side buckles - they rolled under and took a huge lump of flesh out. The bike slammed onto my leg and dragged me. The boots saved my foot.
If only Kevlar was not so WARM (insulating). Recently acquired some Fully Kevlar Lined Hoodies with armour pads in which are great for going to the local village and back. Comfy (not too hot) off the bike and not too cool riding. But yet to find trousers that are as versatile. Kevlar lined trousers (for some reason) cause me to perspire - My Gentleman's Vegetables are steamed. That plus most are NOT 100% lined either. Ventilated leather pants - love them but not found any that are comfy OFF bike.
There is an interesting (enthusiast) video on the net that shows heavy wear right where almost no trousers have any Kevlar.
