Hard on wear items

It is still a wake up call. Can happen to anyone of us at anytime. Nothing is more revealing about a guy's ability and experience than watching them go down the road in shorts and sneakers.

I ride in shorts and sneakers from time to time. Even in flip-flops when the mood strikes. You can question my sanity, but not my experience or ability. As for experience, I've ridden since I was 5, over 30 of those years were on the road without an accident. As for ability, well like I said 30+ years without crashing. If that's not good enough, you can ask a few members on here that have been ridding with me about my competence behind the handlebars. If that's still not good enough... Wanna Race?

Sorry just not impressed. I am about to be 59 years old. Plan on being around a little bit longer. When I ride it is full gear. Even in our great state where your freedom is allowed (No helmet laws) I choose to wear a helmet anytime i ride. Yes this includes the rare occasions when I ride the Harley. For footwear I wear boots. They are kind of dirty most of the time so getting a little bit of #hit on them does not hurt from time to time. You getting my point. I did not provoke this but really do not care how great you may conceive yourself. Besides most folks who wear shorts do not have to contended with the daily life of us folks out in the county. Shorts may be ok for some but out here in the country they are kind of laughed at (Girly) To even consider such attire on a motorcycle really goes with your immature response on "Want to race" Just not impressed at all. Not done yet, we also wear gloves summer and winter. Have a set for both. along with all that prefer to ride during the summer with a leather vest. At least my shoulders and back are covered. Knowing that even the most experienced rider can find themselves in a world of hurt real quick. I ride a lot probably a lot more than you do. 25,000 plus a year for many a year. Have learned from other aspects of my life it is always a good decision to be prepared for the worse. It may not happen then again it might. Enough said .

You made a broad statement, and though my "wanna race" response may have been immature, I still have experience on bikes, and like you posted on this thread ability to have kept "The sunny side up" for many miles over many years.

BTW if you think I look girly in shorts, there must be some ugly girls in your part of the country.

On the R3? - Your inside right calf must be well roasted. You must do what you feel is right - so must I.

Like Sonny I pretty much always wear full gear. I've been riding for yonks in several countries and I've seen too much gravel rash to want more of my own. The worst thumps have been due to other road users and my worst injuries were minimized by having good gear on. Nothing prepares you for a sheet of heavy plywood flying of a truck and slamming you in the face. Leather Jacket had side buckles - they rolled under and took a huge lump of flesh out. The bike slammed onto my leg and dragged me. The boots saved my foot.

If only Kevlar was not so WARM (insulating). Recently acquired some Fully Kevlar Lined Hoodies with armour pads in which are great for going to the local village and back. Comfy (not too hot) off the bike and not too cool riding. But yet to find trousers that are as versatile. Kevlar lined trousers (for some reason) cause me to perspire - My Gentleman's Vegetables are steamed. That plus most are NOT 100% lined either. Ventilated leather pants - love them but not found any that are comfy OFF bike.

There is an interesting (enthusiast) video on the net that shows heavy wear right where almost no trousers have any Kevlar.
