Fingers, I haven't posted an update because it suddenly got cold and snowy in NE Ohio, with salt on the roads, and I haven't ridden in December. So far the coldest I've ridden with Hippo Hands is 50 deg F, in a light drizzle. Wearing unlined gloves and heated grips on medium, my hands were warm and dry. My riding buddy was wearing Gerbings heated gloves, which were providing warmth, but were wet from the rain. He was definitely not as comfortable as me.

I'll post some more after a cold ride with the Hippo Hands.

Has anyone put a barkbusters guard on an r3t with an interior handlebar mount? I've got kuryakyn grips which won't allow mounting on the factory end weight (since I've removed them), and it seems like there's not enough room to clamp guards on the inside of the grips.

Not sure this helps but the Barkbuster Storm model (STM-007-01-BK) specified for the R3 1" bars does not have a second mounting point option between grips and switch blocks. It is a single mount at end of bar with options for that type of mount only.

What model Kuryakyn grips do you have? As long as they have a hole in the outer end cap you may be able to use the optional adaptors shown in the link to fitting instructions above:
12./ Locking Adaptor PN: S7-LA2 Pcs. 2
13./ Spacer 12mm PN: S7-SP12 Pcs. 2

Ive got the ISO grips with the throttle tab and end weights. There must be a way to make it work, since there doesn't seem to be a way to mount them inside the grips with all the large stuff sitting there...

The ends of the stock bars have welded in bungs which have threaded center holes. Kuryakyn end weights have a hole on the inside that could be drilled through to the outer side. There is also a hole in the 'Throttle Boss'. As the Kuryakyn end weights are shorter than the stock bar weights it should be possible to use the stock end weight bolts and drill the Kuryakyn end weight caps to suit. The stock bolts should be fine if they reach the bung thread and if over-length they should just thread further through the bungs.

@hogweed & @Fingers , I am going on my fourth winter with the HippoHands and still love them. I have heated gloves but no heated grips yet. As stated by @TriumPhil I may be a special type of nutjob for riding when the temp drops; but I am not smart enough to stop. So far this winter, I believe 21F is the coldest on my rides to work. However, I have ridden at 0F and at 85mph indicated. Windchill is calculated to be around -37F. The HippoHands with the heated gloves keep my fingers warm enough to be of use in any emergency. That's probably why I haven't invested in the heated grips yet...
