Recently I had to get another set of rubber for the big girl so after much reading and debating I decided to try the Bridgestone Exedra Max with the Avon Cobra. Always been a bit wary of mixing brands but none the less many here will testify to their success.
Firstly, many thanks to Richard and the team at Joe's Motorcycles in Canberra for the excellent service provided, it is second to none and I mean that in all sincerity. The place is a hive of activity, all customer focussed, I highly recommend the visit. Thanks again.
I wanted to get some mileage up before commenting as most new tyres feel good at first. Now they have about 8000kms since fitting I am very pleased with how the bike handles and feels and I have not been easy on them when going through the twisties I can tell you that much. I do have my favourite spots here and there and I did punish them while down in Tasmania recently. I don't usually post up on my ride habits but these tyres inspire a lot of confidence when cornering, (foot pegs) !!! I would have never punished the Metz tyres as far as I did the Bridge's and Avon, just never felt that comfortable. Being a slightly higher profile tyre 55 as opposed to 50, the Exedra max has lifted the bike just a wee bit on the rear which has brought the speedo reading into line (more accurate). Great combination of rubber and service. Regards to the guy's Richard. Mal.

Good to know info. I just put a new rear Metz on my R3R. Have nothing to compare it to but Metz with 8300 mi. on it when punched in Oct 2013.

How did Metz make you feel uncomfortable? Just wondering feeling to anticipate.

New Metz feels so much better then the balding old one. Weather turned to cold for me to continue scuffing / breaking in. Won't be happy till I scrape the feeler pegs. Must know abilities of myself and Rocket. Sure have to push bars in desired direction, but thus far no misbehavior from Rocket.

Great to hear Malcy. I could tell you were pretty happy with them in Tassie. I've had that combination for a few years now and, unless something new comes along, can't see myself using anything else. I'll pass on your kind words to the guys.

Roger, if you're not sure about fitting the higher profile Bridgestone at least give the Avon a try in preference to another Metz. Plenty of threads about that on here.

Previous owner lowered bike about one inch with struts and shocks. Higher profile should not be an issue. Bike shop told me rule of thumb was to subtract 10 to 15 mph cornering speed for ever inch bike lowered. News to me but understand.

Lowering a Roadster could put you peg rails dangerously close to the ground, thereby limiting your lean angle - as a couple of members on here can attest. Bridgestone is about 1/2 inch taller than Metz or Avon, which gives about 3.7% increase in rolling circumference.

been riding the rocket for 5 years now loved the avon front and back superior in many ways to the metzeler trying the max this spring will never go back to metz does it help in your decision??

As I just put a new rear Metz on, will be a while before I have to make a decision. Local shop recommended sticking w/Metz as recommended by Triumph. Next time will try a different setup. Thanks for the info.

Roger. I felt ok with the Metz but not 100%. I did get reasonable mileage compared to some here but they would wear unevenly and that created awkwardness on cornering. Felt ok when new but as time went on, and as kms stacked up it seemed to become like hard work and it did side step at the most inconvenient times. With the kms I have put on this set so far I have experienced none of that nonsense.
