Are Garmin and TomTom the only two with a waterproof bike approved GPS? Anybody using another model with like a waterproof housing or anyhting like that? Looking at getting one and just wanted to see what you all have experienced first. As always, thanks in advance.

Hey, where did Geek Law go? I wanted to let him know how my Motorcycle versus dog case was progressing.

I don't know of any others.

I've no experience with TomTom (surprisingly, given that half of that is my given name) but I found that the Garmin 500 and 550 have water ingress issues, as the terminal on the unit & cradle are at the bottom, where water gathers. The 660 has the connection halfway up, to counter that problem.

Iv had the 550 for years, used it in all weathers and havent been 'ingressed' once..... Tom dreamed up this story to justify to his wife he needed a new 660 before his old 500 drowned.....;-)

mitch - have you looked at one of the 'Aqua boxes' from RAM Mounts.....

Thanks All, You have given me some options with which to do some research. I appreciate it. I like the aqua box idea....I'll let you know what I come up with.

Were you trying to ride across the chanel again? The Zumo site states that our Zumos have: "An IPX7 designation means the GPS case can withstand accidental immersion in one meter of water for up to 30 minutes".

:D Last year I always seemed to ride in the most atrocious weather.

After about the fifth prolonged deluge, the 500 started coming up with weird pages I'd never seen before, and screens asking me to press to continue whilst I was riding. It still worked, but was a pain in the arse. Water had got in somewhere & was playing around with the innards. Someone else from the UK had the same problem. LMG maybe?

No such problems (so far) with the 660, and I put it down to the positioning of the contact strips. Can't be coincidence that they changed the siting from the bottom, where water would pool, to halfway up. I think that Garmin are a bit like Triumph - deny a problem exists, but fix it on the next upgrade.

I use a Garmin Nuvi 250 on mine and carry a baggie and a rubber band in my pocket when travelling. For about 3 cents I've got a 'waterproof case' that has held strong through highway blasts in torrential downpours, snow, hail, blowing sand and dust, and whatever else Canada's highways have thrown at it.
