- 2025 Rocket GT
So while I am really new to this forum, I am not new to motorcycles nor conversions or as I call the corrections I wanted.
So several weeks ago I picked up my 2025 Storm and was very impressed with many of the feature on the bike, but a few remained missing for what I wanted. Missing were simple mid pegs (no controls), a differential slider guard and most important GP shift (or as others call it reverse shifting).
While I have accomplished the first two mods (and posted in the mods section of the forum), the GP was the one that eluded me for a bit.
Some may ask why GP shift? All of my street bikes and race bikes both track and dirt were all converted over to GP shift. In racing it keeps your foot off of the track side when shifting. While the Rocket won't be taking corners where I am worried about that, I still prefer the shift pattern.
So on to how to do a conversion. The difficulty with this bike vs say Suzuki is... on those you can simply flip the lever and your done. I tried that with this bike but quickly found you hit the engine case and cannot rotate the lever into a position that would work.
The second problem is the tranmission spline shaft is vertical thus precluding most after market rearsets and their shift levers. What does however work it a Honda Grom shift lever with a +1" extension for spacing. It turns out that the Grom and the Rocket have the same shift lever spline pattern and dimension.
While the Grom transmission shaft is horizontal, it is the configuration of the shift lever itself that makes this one unique. It has an extension that immediately bends down for almost 2" giving us the needed material to create a GP shift lever.
So I ordered the lever (its an ebay vendor...image provided) and waited the 6 days for shipping.
Since I can't get images to imbed in the paragraphs, please just scroll to the bottom to see what I am describing.
I cut the lever just above the curvature and the placed it on the Rocket for linkage measurement and placement.
Once the location for the linkage was determined, I drilled a pilot hole and then the correct size hole for the Rocket ball linkage to be fitted into. The ball link is an M5 and takes a M6x10 tap. The hole you drill must be .196" in diameter (I am in the US... so we still use funny measurements).
(This hole placement was where I later had to go back and drill and tap a higher hole as the leverage was not as smooth as I wanted).
After mounting the ball link, I attached the new lever on the bike and adjusted the **** linkage to match my foot. A couple of tweeks and I tightened up everything up.
One thing to note is the standard bolt that attaches into the detention on the spline shaft will not fit in from the proper side, so I used a pass through bolt and nut and was able to cinch everything tight.
The last three images show it moving in and out of gear without any interference.
