Gentlemen, need your help - Gauges

G'day Robert .. long time no hear .. i saw a RIII that had been crashed and repaired on the cheap. Owner had replaced the gauges 'pods' with gutted out spin-off oilfilters .. looked really neat. A lot smaller than stock .. cheap fix i know.

Yeah, it's been a while TC. Hibernating over winter in Sweden now, as always :)

A bit to cheapo for me I guess, just wanna know what needs to be done. Is there some connector close to the ECU or how the f**k should i even start to figure out if it works.

the instrument panel does not contain any single wire for data.
the obdii connector has the data wire for the communication of a device to hook up and it goes to computer.
if you tie in at the main gauges harness you will have to use each wire(example speedo, temp., neutral light ect.)
if you use the one wire (plus pos and neg) whatever you hook up has to the capability of communicating
with the computer
you might have some one else come on to explain it better.

Thx man, I guess I have to find a motorcycle electrician!

moto gadget used to sell a small very nice standard speedo with needles and lights (for rpm and warning) maybe they still have one on a shelf somewhere .the connection were apparently also different than the new digital 's one, maybe worth asking them ??

G'day ro6ert. Fancy you wanting to be different.

I realise you're not asking for ideas for gauges but .............

Another option is to get a wifi OBDII connector and use your phone (or an old phone) with an app like Torque. That would be plug'n'play. ;)
