I had the dealership take the bike apart and the vibration was caused by a stiff U Joint. They are replacing the whole drive shaft and U Joint piece but I have been cautioned by a couple mechanics that there may be long term damage to the crank shaft bearings due to the prolonged vibration(5000km's so far) which may not show up for many thousands of km's. With the heavy vibration at the handle bars one can only imagine what the vibration is like at the output shaft. I will be calling Triumph customer service in the morning and see if they really stand behind there bikes.
Interesting stuff Gaolbird. I don't suppose there's any way of assessing the bearings in advance either. It will be very interesting to see how Triumph responds.
Well the new drive shaft was put into the bike and reassembled. The mechanic took it for a test drive and.............
........wait for it

the transmission is F**KED.
They have not taken the transmission apart yet.......I really do not care if the do or not as what ever the issue is will no longer be mine. My dealer has been great but they can only do what Triumph authorizies them to do. I know the bikes are solid but I just happened to get one that was not built properly from the factory( It must have been built on a Friday before a long weekend...). Now I will be pushing there customer service reputation as for me this will be a deal breaker.
I will let you guys know what Triumph is going to do, I will hear back from my dealer sometime Tuesday afternoon.
The decision to replace my 2011 Rocket 3 Roadster instead of fixing it was made in a few days. I am very happy with the decision to replace my R3R and I look forward to acutally really getting to ride it.
Thanks to Triumph and British Imports (Vancouver, BC)
